Deep Thoughts

"Great things are brought about and burdens lightened through the efforts of many hands “anxiously engaged in a good cause.” Imagine what the millions of Latter-day Saints could accomplish in the world if we functioned like a beehive in our focused, concentrated commitment to the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ." M. Russell Ballard October 2012 General Conference

Smorgasborg Saturday

So because there are many things that today can be I decided that it will be Smorgasborg Saturday and then write a few different thoughts on a few different Saturday musings.

My sister Suzanna suggested Saturday should be Sucky Saturday and that we get to complain about something so in honor of that but not to wallow in my pile of self pity here is my one sentence complaint for this morning.
I want my neck to stop hurting!!!
Now I allow any of you reading this to write one sentence-not one page or paragraph-but one sentence of complaint and then we will cheerfully move on to the other ideas I have for Saturday.

My next thought is Survival Saturday. Here is where we write about something that we have done this week to get prepared. That could be anything from purchasing something for our 72 hour kits or food storage, using some of our food storage in an attempt to rotate, finding a new recipe that we can use our food storage in, or learning a new trick or technique for preparedness. If we have not done any of these things then I think even if we have thought about any of these or read other blogs about food storage and preparedness then it counts. Maybe this will stimulate my brain into thinking about this stuff more because I know that I want to write about it on Saturday. This is what we have done this week in part because of the horrendous outcome of the election and because we try and do it anyway.
1. I used my food storage at least twice-now when I say food storage I am talking about the big #10 cans and not just the cans of spaghettios and boxes of cereal in my pantry. I made chicken and rice with my #10 can of rice and I made pumpkin wheat blender pancakes with whole wheat.
2. I looked into purchasing another freezer. We have the big stand up one and an extra fridge outside in the garage but I want the big deep freezer so I can have like a case of butter and those big 25# bags of flour and stuff like that that is hard to store in the upright freezer.
3. We are looking into getting more guns and ammo-should I write about that? With the way things look it may turnout that most of us will be unable to afford guns and ammo in the coming months because they will be taxed so high. BTW-When Don looked on the Cabella's website they were running low if not out of alot of ammo. Hey I have been gathering all this food storage and I dang well better be able to protect it. That's all I have to say about that.

The last part of Saturday's post is called Service Saturday. Here is where I want to remember service that has been done for me and what I have done this week to serve others, what I have seen others do for service or ideas for service especially with the holidays coming up.

There have been many people who have given service to me or my family so I will have to be write about just one at a time and this is not neccesarily in order of importance-just thoughts that come readily to mind. Now that I want to have this post then I can try and remember better and pay more attention.

I remember when I had my gallbladder out that my grandma came down and stayed for about a week to help out with the kids and the house and stuff. It was September of 2000 and Caleb was only 15 months old, Connor was almost 3 and Cody was in 2nd grade. My mom had to work and couldn't come so she sent my grandma instead. Mawmaw would get up every morning and send Don off to work with a hot breakfast. She would iron his work pants for him after she washed them. She then made breakfast again for my kids and got Cody off to school. When she made dinner and I did not feel like eating what she was making she would make me something different-usually grits but one night she made the family BBQ chicken and I did not really want that so she made me fried chicken instead. My mawmaw is awesome-she is always busy and doing something-whether that is cooking or sewing or knitting or making Christmas stockings for the kids, grandkids and spouses, and the great-grandkids. I can't even imagine how many stockings she has made over the years. She has even made some of us 2 of them because like mine that she made me 30 years ago is tearing up and I don't want it to get destroyed. Mawmaw still works at the MTC and goes down to the cannery at least once a week to dry can food storage. Mawmaw is amazing and my "Saturday Service Spotlight"-hah I just came up with another name!

What have I done for service this week?
I took flowers to a sick friend, took dinner into a woman who had surgery, and tomorrow I am subbing for Primary.
Family service for the week-my boys and husband are all around the corner at a older couple's home picking pomegranates for them. Don went on a campout with Connor's troop last night-major service in my opinion because I do not enjoy camping!

So now all of you blog-hoppers pick one or all of these ideas and post them for yourself or for all of us to read! Happy Saturday

One more thought-tomorrow will be Spiritual Sunday-here is where I want to remember the promptings and feelings of the spirit, something new or something I learned more profoundly this week, thoughts on scriptures or conference talks or Sunday lessons or Sacrament meeting. This may turn into a private post on my other blog-the one that is private-but I think that depending on what I write I can atleast post a spiritual thought for the week or something like that. You can too!:)

2 Happy Thoughts:

GrandmaLori

I have some really good spray for your neck that I got from a vendor several years ago at the fair. It was so wonderful that not only do Kevin and I keep them in business but his Mom and Dad do too! Let me know if you want to try it
