Deep Thoughts

"Great things are brought about and burdens lightened through the efforts of many hands “anxiously engaged in a good cause.” Imagine what the millions of Latter-day Saints could accomplish in the world if we functioned like a beehive in our focused, concentrated commitment to the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ." M. Russell Ballard October 2012 General Conference

When Pigs Fly

I gave Don Pink Floyd tickets for our anniversary.  The show was on Friday March 30 at the Smith Center in Las Vegas.  We let grandma and grandpa babysit and then we went to Outback for dinner and then the show.  Don is not a huge concert fan but he has always loved Pink Floyd.  Yes, I know the real band is not out there but this was a pretty good match.  I am not a Pink Floyd fanatic but I did think the lead singer sounded like the original.  Toward the end they let out this huge remote controlled pink pig balloon to fly around the audience.  The rule about no photos went out the window.  I bought us both Pink Floyd shirts off of Amazon for the event but I didn't get any pictures of that. It was fun to be together and especially to people watch--lots of them had to have been at the original concerts in the 70's and man were they still rocking it-with a little help from Bud, Bud Light that is!

A Hiking We Will Go

Caleb had a scout camp out on March 23 where they had to pack up all their gear and hike out to their campsite.  It was a requirement for part of a merit badge.  He said he had a good time but the hike was hard.

Hunger Games Moapa Valley

On March 22, a friend of mine and some others put together a Hunger Games event the night the movie came out. It was at the Overton Gym and there were several stations you got to visit. Caleb really enjoyed the "archery" station. After a few hours of rotating they held a "Hunger Games" with 3 different games. Caleb was called in the "reaping". I was called too but one a the teenagers went as "tribute" for me. It was a fun evening. Caleb was sort of mad though because we wouldn't let him go to the midnight movie with his friends and we sure did not want to go that time of night. Don did take him later on though. I didn't ever go to see it because the commercials alone made my blood pressure rise and my anxiety skyrocket.

Green Day

We did not do much partying for St. Patty's Day but we always make the traditional Corned Beef and Cabbage.  This year we had Chris, Anne, Lexi and Cam with us for the weekend so we made some extra treats.  They were a little hesitant about the corned beef since they had never had it before the way I cook it and Anne has bad memories of it growing up.  They did not say anything until afterward about it but they did enjoy it.  We made mint chocolate chip ice cream and BYU mint brownies.  The ice cream was fabulous, the brownies not so much.

Johnny Appleseed

Cayden's school had a special reading week March 12-16. Each day was a different dress up day.One day was extreme blue and gold-the school colors, one day was favorite historical character day and one day was dress up from your favorite decade.  I can't remember the others.  The only picture I got was historical character day.  Cayden wanted to be Johnny Appleseed.  This really was his idea.  Don had the brilliant idea to make the pot/hat out of foil and Cayden wore my overall capris.  He took his man bag carried over his shoulder to carry "seeds" in.  We thought is was quite clever.  He dressed up for decade day from the 50's and said he was Danny Zuko from Grease.  He actually wore jeans to school-a first since he hates them so bad.  He also wore a white shirt with the sleeves rolled up and white socks and his black church shoes.  He also carried a black comb in his back pocket.  He walked around the morning of saying many Danny Zuko quotes.  Dang it I didn't get a picture of that!  The kids also had activities to do at home and then they could  turn in a signed slip of paper for drawings during the day.  He read with a flashlight one night, called me on the phone from upstairs and read to me one night and a few others that I can't remember either.  It was fun for him to do and he did do some reading!!
