Halloween

For school Connor dressed up as a nerd again with nerd candies taped all over his shirt.  Caleb was a hula girl with a coconut bra and hula skirt.  Kyle was a monkey of course.  Cayden had a school party and  he finally decided that he wanted to be a pirate after thinking he was going to be a vampire or a magician.  I found his costume at Partyland in Utah after searching 3 other party stores and luckily they had one left and it was just his size.  It had the boots attached to the pants so we did not have to buy separate boots. The school always has a costume parade around the playground and then class parties.  They had a pinata, a pumpkin pick up game like musical chairs and freeze dance.   Of course there were snacks as well.  I did not sign up to bring in anything to his party because I knew we were just getting back into town on Sunday and I just did not know how it would go with Kyle during the day so I might not have had time to make anything.  I stopped at Wally's on the way to the school and spent $15 on two bags of chips and a ranch dip.  Nice!  After school Connor and dad carved his pumpkin, we made chili and cornbread (a traditional Halloween meal)  and we waited until about 5pm to start the trick or treating.  Caleb went with a few friends to the Trunk or Treat at the Fairgrounds and Don and I took Cayden and Kyle around to our neighborhood and the next one over.  Caleb was "dressed up" as the 7 seas with 7 letter c's taped to his shirt.  Connor stayed at the house and had a set up on the porch so that he did not have to get up and answer the door all evening.  He was pretty determined as to what he wanted and how it would all work.  After we finished around the neighborhoods, we headed home to answer our door.  We had lots of visitors who wanted to see Kyle so it was fun to show him off.  Connor decided that by 8:15 we were done and so he had his front porch display all cleaned up and put away.   Caleb came home around 8 without his friend because come to find out they had left the parks and rec thing and went to a neighborhood close by to trick or treat but with out telling anyone.  His friend tripped while they were running and split his head open as well as his hand so he went to the ER.  We had to have a big discussion with Caleb about being where he was supposed to be and understanding that had he stayed where he was supposed to then his friend would not have gotten hurt.  We found out the next day that his friend did not go to the ER but his parents superglued his cuts together.  They did take him to the urgent care later on Tuesday though because he had actually broken his pinkie.

Now the faces-Caleb's friend is from England and they don't celebrate Halloween like we do so it was fun to have him participate with us.

Kyle's First trip to Utah/Pre-Halloween Activities

We stayed at Chris and Anne's house this trip because there was no room at Hotel Humphreys with Cody living there, Calley back from Washington and Julia and her family there as well.  The kids had Thursday and Friday off from school for Nevada day.  Connor did not go because he wanted to stay and help grandpa do some carpets jobs.  Caleb had his play Wednesday afternoon so we left Thursday around 1pm.  It took all morning to get out the door.  We stopped in St. George to get gas and food at Wendy's and feed Kyle.  We were there about an hour and then we were able to get to almost Nephi before Kyle started fussing.  I got in the backseat with him and just kept his binkie in his mouth until we got to Grandma Penny's.  Everyone was up there having dinner and cake for Uncle Chris' birthday.  Grandma made enchiladas and a double layer jack-0-lantern cake for Chris like he has had every year for as long as I can remember.  We stayed up there for a little while visiting and letting everyone see the new cuzzies-Kyle and Cameron.  On Friday, Don had a lunch meeting and Chris and Anne had doctor appointments so me and the boys just hung out at Chris' house.  On Saturday Caleb and Cayden and I went to a few party stores looking for costumes and then Don took Caleb and Cody to get some sushi that they brought back to share at Chris' house. 

 

We dressed Cameron and Kyle up in their twinner pumpkin costumes and then  we went to the pumpkin patch which is really just a greenhouse at a nursery off Geneva Road.  We picked out pumpkins for all of us and then we went over to the Water Conservancy District where they had a pumpkin walk; lots of carved and decorated pumpkins lined up for everyone to walk by.  They also had a few kids games and donuts for those who wore costumes. After that we went up to Grandma Penny's to carve pumpkins and have a yummy dinner of potato cheese soup and cheese toast.  The pumpkin carving took most of the evening and Don's neck and shoulders were killing him by the time we got done.  Cayden wanted a Tigger pumpkin, Caleb did an Ironman pumpkin, Cody made a face thing and I plugged some Woody, Buzz and Elmo  pieces into 3 other pumpkins. Ryan  made a cool Batman symbol, Anne made Snow White, Su made a ghost in the woods, Chris made Cinderella and there was a few more that I can't remember now what they were.  Mawmaw held the babies as did Abby and Owie and Cayden.  Owie sang I am a Child of God to the babies too.  It was so cute.

 

Then we had fun dressing up the babies.  Chris and I went to Target on Saturday night and bought a BYU onesie for Kyle and and Cougar pillow pet for Kyle and a Utes Pillow Pet for Cameron.   We took pictures Sunday morning of the rivalry.  Kyle slept through most of the picture taking and Cameron cried.  After the photo shoot we loaded up the car and headed back to Logandale.  Kyle did pretty good on the way home too.  We made it to St. George again and stopped to feed him and change him and then proceeded home.

Halloween

Halloween this year was a week long event.  Starting on Monday night Connor and Caleb spent 3 days getting ready for a haunted house that their Deacon's Quorum put together for Mutual.  They did it at the Fairgrounds in the livestock building.  It was quite the project.  With chili, hotdogs and hot chocolate the evening was a success.  I did not go because

A.  I am not in Young Men /Young Women  and

B.  I H.A.T.E  hate hate being scared.

So I don't really know exactly how it went only that there was lots of blood, guts and screaming.

We decorated the front yard with scarecrows and witches and 3 lit-up plastic pumpkins plus 6 large pumpkins that we used our Mr. Potato Head pieces to decorate our pumpkins. 

Caleb was a Zombie-Nerd.  I taped boxes of Nerds candy all over his shirt for their dress up day at school.  He said the candy was all gone by the end of 2nd period.

 Connor was an Airhead.  I taped Airhead candies all over his shirt.  They did not last too long either.

Cayden was a vampire/magician.  They always have a costume parade at the elementary.  This was on Thursday, October 28 because we always get Halloween off for Nevada day.   His class also had a party that I helped with.  I decided that I really don't like being in charge of things anymore because I have gotten burned a few times in the past.  I am quite content to "help".   His class decorated candy apples, made a haunted house from foam pieces and played a candy corn relay on top of eating lots of treats. 

Halloween was not actually until Sunday but the kids went trick-or-treating on Saturday.  Caleb dressed up as a Rockstar this time and then went with his friend Logan.  Cayden went with some neighborhood kids and them Caleb took around a bit.   My kids did not want to trick-or-treat much so they only went around around our neighborhood and the neighborhood on the next street.  Don't fret though because I had enough candy to get us through the millennium so they were not going to go without.  Connor was extremely worked up from the whole week of festivities and all the excitement.  Don took him for a long drive to help him calm down.  All the unpredictability and the 5 day weekend was too much for him.  We had Monday and Tuesday off for Teacher Development meetings.   After trick-or-treating we hung out at home and handed out candy.  The kids watched Ghostbusters while gobbling up their goodies.  I made caramel apples earlier in the week but the caramel just sort of slid off the apples.  I wanted to give them to my Visiting Teaching ladies but they did not look very pretty.  They tasted just great to us though.   Cody was rehearsing night and day for his play that was the following week so his Halloween was spent singing and feeding people to plants.  On Sunday we had a few trick-or-treaters but the majority came on Saturday night.
