Deep Thoughts

"Great things are brought about and burdens lightened through the efforts of many hands “anxiously engaged in a good cause.” Imagine what the millions of Latter-day Saints could accomplish in the world if we functioned like a beehive in our focused, concentrated commitment to the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ." M. Russell Ballard October 2012 General Conference

Twas The Week Before Christmas

And all through the house
The boys were making mom crazy
And so was the mouse-(the one that lives in my pocket remember?)
Mom was a maniac, she was really stressed out
Her talk to prepare was the reason no doubt
The presents weren't wrapped, the shopping not done,
All of this chaos is really no fun.
Then Sunday it was, hallelulah it's here!
Mom gave her whole talk without hardly a tear.
The talk was all finished, the message complete
Now it was time to go home for a treat!-(See's Candy please!)
Thank goodness it's over, thank goodness that's through
Now maybe she can get to the real list of To Do's.
Laundry to do and presents to wrap,
Guess what-instead she went for a nap!

Here is my talk-it is pretty long so skip to the end if you want! Please excuse all the grammatical errors-it's not like I have to turn it in to my English teacher or anything! Oh and if you were at church and heard me give this talk today then you can just stop reading right now!

I think that I am the last person that should up be up here telling you about the spirit of Christmas and how to be calm and peaceful. Giving this talk is not up there on my list of things that help me to be calm and peaceful especially 4 days before Christmas. I think that Heavenly Father really gets a good laugh at me sometimes. So that being said-
How has your December been? Dashing through the snow. Deck the Halls. Haul out the Holly, Rocking around the Christmas tree, shop, wrap, bake, shop some more for those who I forgot to buy for, drive here, drive there, decorate, write lists, check lists once or twice or even three times, hurry Santa, run here run there, don’t be late. Hang the lights, decorate the tree, fill the stockings, School parties, work parties, neighborhood parties, Concerts, plays, programs. The Tabernacle Choir, The Nutcracker, Forgotten Carols, The Magic Forest, the Festival of Trees. Cocoa, eggnog, See’s candy, cookies, cake, caramel corn-exercising double time because of all that junk. Busy, busy, busy,! (deep breath) It’s only December 21 but I’ve been tired all month! What am I doing wrong? Something’s gotta give! Wait a minute I know another song.
(Slowly) Silent Night, Holy Night, All is calm, all is bright. What do these words mean? This is what I think of when I think of these words.
(slowly and quietly) Silent-still, hushed, quiet, noiseless, tranquil, solemn
Holy-sacred, consecrated, hallowed, blessed, divine, reverent
Calm-serene, peaceful, unruffled, composed, restful, comfort
Bright-clear, vivid, light, shine, sparkle, glowing
These words that we sing time after time, year after year have special meaning when we apply them to our own lives. Are there times in our lives that we are silent, quiet, and still? Do we make time to be holy, and consecrate our time, talents and abilities to our Heavenly Father? Can we find places to be calm and peaceful even amid the upheaval and uncertainty of this time? Where is the clear, vivid and bright light that should emanate from us as we try to become more like our Savior?
Jesus Christ, that highly anticipated infant whose birth has been celebrated with song and story, is a perfect example for us of how to feel still, divine, serene and shining. The circumstances of His life were anything but tranquil. His world was politically unstable. He and His family experienced life under Roman rule and a Jewish king who wanted Jesus dead. Jesus was challenged and criticized. He felt hunger, fatigue, sorrow, temptation, and frustration. He was mocked, abandoned, and betrayed. In the world where Jesus lived there were problems in families and people had severe illness, injuries, and tragic losses. Neighbors were not always kind to one another, at times business was bad, salt lost its savor, and tempests raged, lepers were ungrateful and occasionally folks ran out of refreshments during wedding receptions; and yet every incident we have recorded of the Savior’s life points to a life of tranquility.
After the birth of the Savior the Wise men wanted to bring to this King of Kings rare and precious gifts. After they had seen and worshipped the Holy child, they were warned to not return to Herod but to go a different way. Are there Herod’s in our lives that we need to turn from and go a different way. Do these Herods keep us from feeling silent and calm, radiating with light? Fear and anxiety, frustration, anger, despair, addiction, depression, sickness, greed, ingratitude, contention, self pity, pride, bad attitudes, guilt, impatience, sin and lack of faith can all be the form that our own Herods take. Herods that block our path to our Savior and restrict us from having silent nights, and holy experiences, from having calm feelings and from being bright examples. Whose plan is it that we are overly busy and hurried and harried and frustrated? Who rejoices in our stress and our anxiety? It certainly is not the Savior or our Heavenly Father. Do we like the Wisemen know of a different way and do we choose to go that different way rather than returning to those Herod’s that inevitably destroy us? Do we truly understand and recognize that our Savior while part deity was also mortal because of his mother Mary? Because of this mortality he was not immune from those same physical and emotional Herods that plague and thwart us. He was literally hunted by a wicked king but his wise and calm earthly father took Him and His mother and fled to another land. Later on in his life after seeing and walking with the meek and lowly of the earth, He unselfishly took upon himself our sins and our sorrows, our grief and our pain in the Garden of Gesthemane. Because of that great and selfless sacrifice, we have the ability to repent through the atonement and choose a different way also. While we each have our own Herods we can choose to think of others during this season of the year. Our hearts are softened at Christmas and our thoughts and desires turn to those that are lacking spiritually, emotionally and physically, just as our Savior did all of his life. Because we want to be like our Savior, we have according to Elder Bednar
the capacity to recognize and appropriately respond to other people who are experiencing the very challenge or adversity that is most immediately and forcefully pressing upon us. Character is revealed in the power to discern the suffering of other people when we ourselves are suffering; in the ability to detect the hunger of others when we are hungry; and in the power to reach out and extend compassion for the spiritual agony of others when we are in the midst of our own spiritual distress. The Savior of the world is the perfect example of such a consistent and charitable character. Close quote
So we have the capacity- the ability-the gift to recognize and respond to other people’s needs. Do we choose to act on that ability?
In our desire to be like our Savior who was born tender and mild, these feelings of goodwill and love that surround and permeate the air during Christmas can and should be extended the whole year through. When we can accept and act upon the spiritual promptings that are given to us by the Holy Ghost we can feel calm and peaceful.
The song continues- Sleep in Heavenly peace, Sleep in Heavenly peace
On that sacred night of the birth of Jesus, the angels that came to the shepherds proclaimed peace and goodwill toward men. What initial fear and anxiety those shepherds’ felt. The scriptures tell us that they were “sore afraid” when visited by that heavenly being but those feelings were shortly replaced with calm and reverence. After this experience and their own visit to see the heavenly king, they spread the joyous word of the Messiah’s birth, “and all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told".
Was there peace in the America’s the night of the Savior’s birth? Those that had believed and had waited and hoped for the promised sign of the day and a night and a day without darkness and for appearance of the new star were in fear for their lives. During the 5 years since the prophecy of Samuel the Lamanite some lost hope, doubting the words of the prophet. How did those that remained stalwart and faithful feel as the days and hours slipped by, wondering and waiting, still believing even while the dissenters plotted and prepared to kill them. In 3 Nephi 1:11-13 we read how their prophet Nephi “cried mightily [all that day] to his God in behalf of his people, yea, those who were about to be destroyed because of their faith in the tradition of their fathers.
… And behold, the voice of the Lord came unto him, saying:
“Lift up your head and be of good cheer; for behold, the time is at hand, and on this night shall the sign be given, and on the morrow come I into the world, to show unto the world that I will fulfil all that which I have caused to be spoken by the mouth of my holy prophets”
That night, Nephites in the New World witnessed an astonishing sight in the heavens, “for behold, at the going down of the sun there was no darkness” (3 Ne. 1:15)—the prophesied sign of the Messiah’s birth.
Even after the sign appeared Satan still abounded in the hearts of the wicked and lies were spread to convince those that had witnessed the signs that they really hadn’t. The brightness and light did appear with the arrival of the new star but what peace was there to be found? Where was the silence, the holiness , and the calmness? It was found in the hearts of those that believed.
Okay now-everyone close your eyes. I want you to think of a time during the last 3 weeks that you have felt peace. Was it here at church-was it at one of the many beautiful concerts that you have attended. Did you go see the lights at Temple Square or at the St. George Temple? Have you been to the temple since December started? Maybe it has been early in the morning or late at night when the house is still. Now I want to tell you a story-a parable of sorts.
There once was a king who offered a prize to the artist who would paint the best picture of peace. Many artists tried. The king looked at all the pictures. But there were only two he really liked, and he had to choose between them.
One picture was of a calm lake. The lake was a perfect mirror for peaceful towering mountains all around it. Overhead was a blue sky with fluffy white clouds. All who saw this picture thought that it was a perfect picture of peace.
The other picture had mountains, too. But these were rugged and bare. Above was an angry sky, from which rain fell and in which lightning played. Down the side of the mountain tumbled a foaming waterfall. This did not look peaceful at all.
But when the king looked closely, he saw behind the waterfall a tiny bush growing in a crack in the rock. In it, a mother bird had built her nest. There, in the midst of the rush of angry water, sat the mother bird on her nest - in perfect peace.
Which picture do you think won the prize? The king chose the second picture.
"Because," explained the king, "peace does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble, or hard work. Peace means to be in the midst of all those things and still be calm in your heart. That is the real meaning of peace. "
Elder Worthlin said “While we yearn for peace, we live in a world burdened with hunger, pain, anguish, loneliness, sickness, and sorrow. We see divorce with all of its attendant conflict and heartache, especially among the innocent children caught in the middle. Wayward, disobedient children cause their parents grief and anxiety. Financial problems cause distress and loss of self-respect. Some loved ones slip into sin and wickedness, forsake their covenants, and walk in their “own way, and after the image of [their] own god.” (D&C 1:16.)
The value of peace within our hearts cannot be measured. When we are at peace, we can be free of worry and fear, knowing that with the Lord’s help, we can do all that is expected or required of us. We can approach every day, every task, and every challenge with assurance and confidence in the outcome. We have freedom of thought and action, freedom to be happy. Despite dismal conditions in the world and the personal challenges that come into every life, peace within can be a reality. We can be calm and serene regardless of the swirling turmoil all about us. Attaining harmony within ourselves depends upon our relationship with our Savior and Redeemer, Jesus Christ, and our willingness to emulate him by living the principles he has given us. He has extended to us an invitation: “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matt. 11:28–30.) close quote
As the song continues, Silent Night, Holy Night, Son of God loves pure light
The pure light that the Son of God loves is charity. Is there more that we can do, can we give of ourselves and then as a blessing in return receive the gift of charity. Again I quote from Elder Bednar
Let me suggest that you and I must be praying and yearning and striving and working to cultivate a Christlike character if we hope to receive the spiritual gift of charity--the pure love of Christ. Charity is not a trait or characteristic we acquire exclusively through our own purposive persistence and determination. Indeed we must honor our covenants and live worthily and do all that we can do to qualify for the gift; but ultimately the gift of charity possesses us--we do not posses it (see Moroni 7:47). The Lord determines if and when we receive all spiritual gifts, but we must do all in our power to desire and yearn and invite and qualify for such gifts. As we increasingly act in a manner congruent with the character of Christ, then perhaps we are indicating to heaven in a most powerful manner our desire for the supernal spiritual gift of charity. And clearly we are being blessed with this marvelous gift as we increasingly reach outward when the natural man or woman in us would typically turn inward. Close quote.
No other time of the year is this more prevalent and evident. What evidence is there of the charitable and Christmas spirit that is the Christ spirit. The sending of cards to family or friends that you have not seen or heard from in years, the giving trees and the Toys for Tots, the Sub for Santa and the Christmas stockings that this ward participates in each year. The help of an office worker and a school teacher in the gathering of information on a family that needs help with Christmas. The gifts left on doorsteps, and the quiet distribution of hundred dollar bills at Deseret Industries. The Cub Scouts singing Silent Night so reverently to a sweet grandma who has served each one of them at school-when just the minute before were rough housing and hollering in the back of the car. The teacher’s quorum delivering goodies to someone who said thanks but then abruptly shuts the door. The Bishop who spends countless hours away from his home and family to see each of us at tithing settlement. The Stake President who stays at the bedside and with the family of a gravely ill member of the Stake. The Primary lessons and songs that are taught so that each child may feel of the spirit. The Sunday School Teacher who consistently and whole heartedly studies and prepares her lesson and takes the time to know and love each student under her stewardship. The Young Women who arrive at an ill sister’s home to straighten and brighten up her home. The blankets and quilts, the white shirts and ties, the hygiene kits and the school supplies, the wheelchairs and eye glasses that are purchased, or collected to be distributed to those in need. The few coins in the Salvation Army buckets, the handful of bills waved out of a car window to someone standing on the corner holding a sign pleading for any type of help. The homeless man who when offered a sack lunch asks for one more for his friend. The kind words of a shopper standing in a long line to a grumpy fellow shopper. The doors being held open and people waving others into traffic ahead of them. The gracious ward member who every year anonymously presents each family in the ward with some gift-oranges, clementines, or Preach My Gospel books. The sister who spends countless hours sewing quilt after quilt only to give them away as gifts to others. This list could go on and on and is just what I have seen what I know of that goes on each year. What have you seen that others have done to share that Christ spirit? More importantly-what have you done to share that Christ spirit? Because we want and need the Christ spirit-the spirit of charity we can do these things all year round. These acts of service of charity and goodwill lighten our own burdens and allow the light of the Savior to shine through us. “All things are created and bear record of me” the Savior said. That would include you and me. Our very lives stand as a witness that He lives. That to know him is to know peace. To love is to love all. To emulate Him is the greatest gift we can offer him.
Mary the mother of the Savior privately pondered in her heart the important and sacred things that happened that night. We too can privately reflect on the significance of the son of God in each of our lives. If we want the spirit of Christ and Christmas in our lives we need to find and make time to be still and silent, to be holy and divine, to be calm and serene and share our bright light with others. While we want to be the constant givers of charity, peace and goodwill, we still always receive more than we give. We receive the peace that surpasses all understanding, we receive the spirit of our Heavenly Father through the gift of the Holy Ghost and according to President James E. Faust “The Holy Ghost is the greatest guarantor of inward peace in our unstable world….It will calm nerves; it will breathe peace to our souls.” (Ensign, May 1989, pp.32-33.) Above all, we receive into our hearts the greatest gift that the world has ever been given-the gift of the Savior of the World. My hope for myself and for each one of us this few days before Christmas is that we may understand and enjoy a more silent and holy Christas, the way that it is supposed to be. In the name of Jesus Christ Amen.

So Much Info

So what is my problem? I am such a slacker! I have not posted for a long time but my only excuse is I've been busy! So a few weeks in review-the highlights
-Thanksgiving at my mother's house in Provo. Connor's diabetes doctor appointment-His AIC was down-much better! Playing at the park, cousins, lots of food, Christmas Vacation, Brick Oven, Build A Bear, Thanksgiving Point Christmas lights and reindeer, Amy's baby shower, shopping but not on Black Friday, dinner at Los Hermanos with Cydnee. Drove home Sunday morning.
-Monday after Thanksgiving Cayden got his stitches out.
-Decorating the house and Christmas tree. Cayden has been dubbed the Christmas Nazi because he wanted the house decorated from top to bottom all in one day. He also wants the lights on all the time-day and night. He does not want to take the stockings down from the fireplace even when the fire is blazing hot. We decorated the inside of the house for FHE one night but did not get the tree done that night because we have so many decorations. The lights on the outside of the house got done on December 1, the tree got done on the 6th.
-Cayden got braces on Friday December 5. It was pretty quick and much less painful then the expander. He will have the braces for probably 9 months to a year. He will have braces in 2 phases-this is the first phase and then when he is around 10 and all his baby teeth are gone he will get them again.
-Don took me to dinner and Mamma Mia the real deal at Mandalay on December 6 for an early birthday present. We wanted to go the week of my birthday and spend a few nights but December is just crazy and so there was just no time.
-Cody has been singing up a storm. He sang at the Festival of Trees on December 5 and then had a Christmas concert on Monday December 8. He sang a duet with Stephanie Lyon-Mele Kalikimaka complete with Hawaiian hats, leis, and sunglasses.
-Cayden had a Christmas program on December 11. Mom, dad and grandma and grandpa watched him stand there and do nothing for 30 minutes even though he had been singing the songs for weeks. Apparently when they did the program the next for the school he did sing. He just wouldn't while his family was there.
-Cody had a Forensics Tournament in Mesquite the 12 and 13. He took first with his partner in Policy and 4th place in both Expository and Oratory. I judged at the tourny but did not judge him-just some of his friends. He was in the paper for the concert and the tourny.
-I had an anniversary for my 29th birthday on December 12. I got lunch at Cheesecake Factory .
-Caleb has Christmas program on Tuesday December 16. Unlike his brother he did sing and had a great time.
-Don has been to Atlanta, Dallas and Austin since the first week of December but as of yesterday he has finished his traveling for the year. It is good thing too because of all the snow and bad weather in Las vegas the airport is shut down tonight. I am so glad that he came home yesterday or else he would have been stuck in Phoenix until tomorrow sometime.
-The younger boys did not have school today because of Parent Teacher Conference.
-There will be no school tomorrow because of the snow-no snow in Logandale but lots of rain and cold temps so there is a big potential for ice tomorrow. The whole school district is shut down tomorrow.
-I would like to announce that I have officially made rolls, breadsticks, and cinnamon rolls numerous time without failing since my cousin gave me the greatest recipe after Thanksgiving and and my mom gave me a bottle of liquid lecithin. Okay so I took it while they were at church but I left her $20 on the counter.
-Got all the obligatory Christmas cards out-hope I did not forget anyone.
-Made my own deisgn for fleece pillow covers for big reading pillows for my kids teachers.
-Dejunked and cleaned out Connor and Caleb's room. That room was horrible and no matter how hard the little darlings try they just can't clean the room the way mom cleans the room-apparently clothing-clean, dirty and questionable is supposed to be thrown up into the top of the closet because mom can't see it.
-Have you smelled the Peppermint Twist handsoap from Bath and Bodyworks? My new favorite!
-Rode bikes with Connor all the way to Grandma's. Decided not to do that again.
-Sewed on Connor and Caleb's Karate patches-do not like sewing on patches.
-Got all my Christmas shopping done-blew the budget but hey it's Christmas!

The To Do List for the few days left before Christmas
-Wrap-I really dislike wrapping.
-Baking-I seriously want to make lots of cookies and suckers and Buche and any other yummy thing I can think of that it really tasty.
-Deliver neighbor gifts
-Eat more See's candy
-Walk a few more laps around my neighborhood
-Give my talk on Sunday-yes the Lord has a really amusing sense of humor. Apparently I do not have enough stress or enough to do the week before Christmas-oh that must be the point huh!
-Go to Forgotten Carols Friday night.
-Adams Family Christmas party Saturday
-Apparenly hang out with my kids for many many days-no school Wednesday, Snow Day Thursday and 16 day of Christmas break.
-Not have a Christmas meltdown Good luck on that one!

Whacked Out Week

So my brilliant plan to post on a daily basis is not so brilliant. I just have not had time-ok I lied-I had time over Thanksgiving but spent so much time doing nothing I had no time to blog other than to snoop around on all of your's! I really had good intentions to post my brilliant journal type posts but not it's just not happening so this is the week or 2 in recap.
We will just rewind to Thankful Thursday last week because of Thanksgiving.
I have so many things to be grateful for that this could be a very long list but so as not to bore anyone I will contain myself to 10 things that I am thankful for.

1. My great husband who bends over backwards to help me to be happy.
2. My kids-I'm pretty sure that I did not request all these boys but I lost the receipt and there is no return policy so I guess I will have to keep them.
3. Medicine, doctors, hospitals-see previous posting about Cayden's fight with a PVC pipe and at this very moment medicine is extremely appreciated because my husband is gone Cayden is sick AGAIN!
4. Don's job-with so many people losing their jobs I am so thankful that Don can provide for us.
5. Help-I am thankful for so many people who help me out on a daily basis-Don's parents, Dena, Joan, and Vicki
6. All those friends who help and support me and our family.
7. The Gospel of Jesus Christ-sometimes it's the only thing that gets me through the day.
8. My bed-I love my bed and my really old green gingham blanket.
9. Being a domestic engineer. I am so glad that I can be home for my kids especially because Don has to travel.
10. My extended family-I love all you cotton headed ninny muggins!

Memory Monday
My memory for this week is from Thanksgiving what else! I don't remember alot of Turkey Days when I was younger other than a few times that we went to my dad's sister's house, Aunt Liz. She lived in Salt Lake and I just remember that it was hard to go there because I was alwys a litle afraid of her husband. I do remember one Thanksgivng we went there and while the food was being prepared upstairs I went downstairs and I think some of my cousins were watching Man From Snowy River. I don't remember the food or anything else just Man from Snowy River. I do remember that there was a distinct difference in the cooking of my 2 grandma's. Mawmaw's was definitely southern style with chicken dressing and dumplings (mm mm good) and Grandma Gessel always had apple, raisin, carrot salad and cucmbers in vinegar-did not really like either of those items.

Too tired to post pics or continue this post-maybe tomorrow.

Memory Monday-Week 4

Because of the wacky weekend my memory is when I got stitches. We had a dog when I was growing up named Fred. He was a black Doberman and I did not like him! That was further evidenced when one afternoon after school he got loose out of his pen and was terrorizing the neighborhood-ok not really but he was a big dog. I went after him to bring him home and when I got to him I grabbed him by his collar and started to walk/drag him home when he turned his head and bit me on the bicep. I screamed, let him go and ran home with a big puncture wound on my arm. My mom took me to Orem to Mark Preston's house because his dad was doctor. I got stitches in my arm in Mark's kitchen. I think that I was about 10. I still have the scar to prove it. This could be one of my many reasons why I do not like animals. In case you are wondering-my dad did not shoot the dog like he should have but he did take him to the vet to get nuetered shortly after the incident. Hah-so there big mean dog!

Scary Stitches Saturday!

So the daily posts took a vacation the last few days. I will try and get caught up! Smorgasborg Saturday turned into Scary Stitches Saturday thanks to a lovely piece of PVC pipe. Consider this your warning-disturbing content to follow.
Saturday morning we had our friends, the Dorseys from Idaho, come over for breakfast. After partaking of some delicious pumpkin chocolate chip pancakes, bacon and cocoa, we sat around and visited and the kids all went outside to play. About 12pm the fun started. The kids had all gone to the fort and came back with a plethora of sticks, pvc pipe and concrete stakes. A few minutes later I heard Connor yelling that Cayden had been hit with a pipe and that he was bleeding. So I go running and see Cayden in the front yard with blood running down his neck onto his shirt. I thought that he had been hit with the pipe itself but actually one of the kids was whacking a pvc pipe on the tree and because it was so brittle it shattered into about 8 or more pieces-one of which flew into Cayden's neck, punctured it and cut it but then fell out. He was crying and I bolted over to him and saw the injury, grabbed his collar and put it up to his neck and applied pressure while hollering for Don and trying to get Cayden into the house. The wound was right below his ear about an inch and I was concerned that there was a major artery involved because of the amount of blood and the fact that it was really dark purple. When we got inside, Don went for the first aid box and got a bunch of gauze and then sat Cayden down on his lap while I panicked. I could not think of who to call other than the ambulance but Serena, my friend said to call Lisa, our neighbor who is a nurse. I had a hard time remembering her phone number and when I did remember, her line was busy. I sent Connor down to her house to get her and then I called our other neighbor Willy who is a cop to come and look at the injury to see if he needed stitches. We figured that he probably did but wanted another opinion. Both Willy and Lisa got there and said that it definitely needed to be looked at. Our Bishop was in the neighborhood and he came in and suggested that we just use Super Glue but Nurse Lisa said that was not such a good idea. The Bishop and Don gave Cayden a blessing and we waited for Don's mom to come over to stay with the other boys. Cody was at a Forensics tournament so he was unavailable for child care services. We took Cayden to the hospital in Mesquite. We were taken back to the room pretty quickly after a nurse came out to the waiting area and looked at the injury and said that yes he needed to be seen. We waited for a little while to see the doctor which was fine because Cayden's neck was only bleeding a little. The doctor suggested an X-ray just to make sure that none of the pipe was left in his neck and to check the surrounding soft tissue for injury. Cayden was acting fine and happy and even smiled for the Xray because the tech told him it was just like a picture. The Xray came back fine but the doctor said that needed a few stitches. That sent Cayden over the edge. While trying to get Cayden to lay down on the bed on his side so that he could get the stitches, Cayden started to freak out. That hole in his neck started gushing like a drinking fountain. The doctor was trying to give him the shots to numb the area so he could clean it and the whole time Cayden is screaming and crying. The doctor is grabbing gauze while I am holding Cayden's hands, Don is holding his feet and the nurse-a lady from our ward by the way-is holding his head. The back of head head was covered in blood and all down his back. Luckily there was a pad under neath Cayden's head that soaked up most of the blood that ran down his back. After the shots started working and the doctor was able to put in the stitches, Cayden calmed down and he stopped bleeding but that seemed like a long time. I had to turn my head into Don's shoulder mostly because of the psychological aspect of seeing my child bleeding to death on the bed. The doctor was very focused and very calm-too calm almost so I asked at one point after it seemed that Cayden had been bleeding for a long time if the doctor was concerned about all that bleeding and he said that he was but that it was ok. He thought that he might send us to see a vascular surgeon but he put the stitches in really deep and after that Cayden stopped bleeding. All of my children combined have not bled that much ever!! When the stitches were almost in and Cayden was calm I said to Julie, our nurse, "Tell me we are ok here" and she said that we were. We opted to toss the shirt Cayden was wearing and I also declined the photo op of that shirt with all that blood on it. I don't need a picture to remind me how much blood there was anyway. It was a bummer though because it was a new shirt that we all had just barely gotten that we were all gonna wear to the Pirate Football State Championship Game that was Saturday evening in Las Vegas. Connor went to the game with Don's parents, Caleb stayed home and sat on his bed because he had some serious 'tude going on when in to the game. I was a little paranoid about him leaving me and Cayden just in case something happened. Most of the valley was in Las Vegas and if Cayden started to bleed out again I don't know what I would do. He was fine but I was pretty anxious. I would have been content to strap him into my bed for the duration of the weekend so that he was still and quiet and in my sight. We did go to church on Sunday but I kept him home from school on Monday. We were getting ready to go to Utah and I would have gotten him out early anyway. We have tried to keep Cayden as still and calm as possible to keep his blood pressure down and avoid the potential for disaster. We even put a moratorium on the teasing and chasing of Cayden for a while. Pretty scary Saturday! Oh and by the way Pirates took State!!

The Culprit-who knows which piece it actually was!

Memory Monday-I seriously could not think of anything to write about yesterday!

Cayden came home from school coughing his guts out and proceeded to do that the rest of the night. He is the worst medicine taker ever-literally throwing it up so I had those Triaminic melty strip things that had cough medicine in them. I gave him 2 and waited a good 2 hours for them to start working. It did not completely stop his cough but it settled it down a little. He woke up with croup at 3 and we were up until 4:30. Where is my husband you might wonder-he is in Kansas. Oh it was bound to happen. It is the story of my life Don goes on a trip-kids get sick. Oh hey and guess what-yesterday I washed all my bedding so Cayden could cough and sneeze on them all night! Wasn't that nice? Cayden is home today and he is starting to cough alot again. I am going to try a trick my friend told me about today to see if it works. Vicks on the feet and then thick socks-weird but she swears it works. Thanks Lisa :)! So the memory for today is a time that you were sick as a child.

When I was in 3rd grade I got the chicken pox. It was awful! I remember how my throat just hurt and itched because the sores were way down my throat and how my head just itched and itched! But the worst part about it was when I went back to school. I still had some of the sores and scabs and Rhett Thomas and Devin Rigby called me the Polka Dot Door. The Polka Dot Door was show that used to be on PBS. I hated them for calling me that.

I also remember when I had my tonsils out. I always had ear infections and tonsillitis so I went to the hospital and they took out out my tonsils. Laurel had to have here tonsils out soon after I did and I was so mad because when she came out of the surgery room my parents gave her a big Bugs Bunny stuffed animal. I did not get a Bugs Bunny stuffed animal-I did not get any stuffed animal at all! I was pretty irritated by that. Connor and Cody both have had to have their tonsils out. They both got stuffed animals.

Please forward this to the complaint department!

OK I have my complaint now! I have been trying for over an hour to upload pictures on the previous post but it will not work! When I finally get the pictures to upload I can't publish the post because it keeps giving my some error code. I seriously have tried 7 times to get it to work. I quit! So this is me complaining!!! AAARRRGGGGHHHH!!!

Slacker Saturday-but only for the blog!

I have not posted like I wanted to this week but I have been busy! Today's postings were supposed to be Sucky Saturday-insert complaint here-but I really don't have a good complaint right now. OK I could just put in a random complaint here but if I am going to post it it has to be a really good one so I will save up for next week maybe and then add 2 complaints-if I have any. Then there is Super Service Saturday of which I can't think of anything super spectacular in the service department that I did this week so I will have to do better next week. Then there is the Survival Saturday part-see below about the pomegranates. Recap for the last week-Connor and Don had a camppout last week with Connor's 11 yeard old scout troop that I did not post about but Don only took one picture so that is my excuse. They went out above Carp/Elgin and camped overnight. Connor is always glad when Don goes with him on campouts. I feel quite a sense of relief when Don goes with the kids on things like that. Last Saturday was really busy after they got back from camping. Don and the boys went to the yard of an older couple in the ward and helped pick pomegranates for them. This week we were rewarded for their hard work with a gallon of pomegranate juiice. You will see above my hard work for today as I made 24 bottles of pomegranate jelly. Rewind back to last Saturday-Cody had to sing at the Pomegranate Festival so we went to watch him. I took my regular camera and videoed him singing so I will try and upload a song. Taylor got to sing too because although she is at the middle school they have the same choir teacher. After the Pomegranate Festival we went to a semi-final football game at the high school. I left early with Cayden and came home to sew. Flash forward to this weekend. Last night the grocery store had their annual Holiday Open House. They had entertainment going on through out the night and Cody's Encore group got to sing there too. They did a really good job even though the acoustics in the store are yucky. They sang for about 30 minutes and sang a bunch of songs-new ones that we have not heard him sing a million times. I only had a few minutes left of record time on my camera but I was able to get one song on video. Today was another semi-final football game. I stayed home this time with Cayden and made jars and jars of pomegranate jelly. It is amazing what a gallon of juice will make. I also made a rather tasty cheesball and stroganoff for dinner in between batches. I also sort of watched the BYU game while jellying and had Aerosmith and Guns and Roses for company.

Thankful Thursday

This week I am thankful for good examples. This week a great family that we know lost their son. This son has been severely mentally handicapped and had serious health problems since he was about 3. He passed away this week at the age of 45 or so. His parents are the greatest examples of selfless and Christ-like service that I have ever seen. They have tirelessly and selflessly cared for this child their entire lives-this man who could hardly speak and who had a multitude of physical issues too. They have put aside their needs and wants to fulfil their duty to their son and to the Lord. This couple attended church at different times every week so that one was always with their son. They have done this for years and years. There were very few times that others came in to care for their son because they shouldered this huge responsibility and took it very seriously. They served and went to the temple at different times and I think that this week was the first time that I have ever seen them in the car together at the same time. They have devoted their entire lives to their son who could not care for himself even in the smallest degree. Their other children live out of state and came in to assist a few times but of course they have their own families to care for. Last night was the viewing at the church. This man was loved by his family and loved and cared for more deeply than most people could ever wish for. This could not have been easy for this couple and so I hope that I can try and be just a little better than I have been and be more patient and understanding to my children and others. I am also thankful for the Plan of Salvation and to know that while this man did not have much in what the world would consider, he has fulfilled his mission here on earth and will be waiting for his family on the other side. He will be whole and perfect through the resurrection and it will quite the day when he can tell his parents how much he appreciated all that they did for him to the exclusion of all else. It is so great to know that he has made it to the celestial kingdom and that we can strive to do and be all that we can so that we can see him there. I am thankful for good examples who inspire me to do better.

Wish Wednesday

So I have been really bad at posting this week. I have been super busy as usual and Don was gone so that makes me much busier and obviously more tired. So here is my wish for this week.

I wish that I was a morning person and could function on a lot less sleep. I really could get a whole lot more done and one of those things would be to exercise. I have totally fallen off the wagon in the last month or so in that department. I just really like to sleep and enjoy Sunday afternoons so much because I justify and rationalize a nap on that day. Saturdays and days when there is no school are the greatest because we sleep in and the kids are old enough to know that if they get up before we do to be quiet and let us sleep. If they are starving they can get a bowl of cereal until we get up and get breakfast for them. I have a hard time sleeping when Don is gone but it has gotten better than it used to be. He is gone so much now that I just end up being so exhuasted I just have to sleep. Plus I have learned that I sleep much better when the TV is off. I used to leave it on just for background noise but not anymore. I hate my alarm clock and purposely set it 20 minutes earlier than I want to get up just so I can hit snooze. I need more motivation to get moving in the morning but it is just so hard. So that is my wish for this week-to not need or want as much sleep as I do and to get up earlier so that I can and want to exercise. Any suggestions?

Memory Monday

I can't think of anything really profound to write about but since we took the kids to Madagascar 2 last night for FHE -it was hilarious by the way!-today's post will be about memories about certain movies or associated with movies.

My dad had tons of button up long sleeve shirts that he wore for work. I got the joyous privilege to iron them for 50 cents each. There were piles and piles of them. I don't think that I have ever seen someone with so many shirts. I remember that I spent one whole afternoon watching Gone With the Wind and ironing my dads shirts. Do you know how long Gone With The Wind is? That is why I do not iron unless I am being tortured. We go to the dry cleaners!

Another movie memory that I have is that on Sunday nights when we lived in Lindon the "Wonderful World of Disney" would be on TV. This is where they would play a Disney movie and we would watch it as a family. I remember watching Sound of Music although I don't think that was Disney. I think that we snapped beans and shelled peas while watching that.

During the summer the Scera theatre would have morning showings of older kids movies. I think that we could get a pass that was good for 10 movies that cost $10 and they showed the movies a few times a week or once a week or something like that. Then for another dollar you could get a little drink, a little popcorn and a small candy-like a package of Bottle Caps or Lemonheads or something. We did that a few times.

I may have posted this before butme and Erin, my friend from high school went to see Last of the Mohicans when it first came out. We loved the soundtrack so much that after the show we drove around to every K-Mart, and Shopko in the area to try and find it. We did not find it. That soundtrack is still one of my favorites.

Ok last one-I remember watching Sommersby with Cydnee. I hated it! I still hate it! You just can't end movies like that but my mother and Cydnee tried to reason with me that the way it ended was the only way it could end but I argued and will continue to argue till my last breath that it was totally wrong! He did not have to die! Yes, that was the honorable thing and he did it to save her reputation blah blah blah but whatever!

So as the end to post I will tell you what my favorite movies are.
1. Notting Hill
2. Mamma Mia
3. Nanny McPhee
4. Princess Bride
5. Sabrina

Ok one more thing-since there is nothing to watch on TV the last few nights I have been intirgued with Turner Movie Classics. I have watched 3 old old black and white films. Two with Dorothy MaGuire-for my siblings or any of you who question who she is, she is the mom from the old Swiss Family Robinson and the mom in Old Yeller. The movies were Invitation, and The Enchanted Cottage. I enjoyed them really and now with my Netflix subscription I am ordering old movies to watch while Don is gone. I watched Captain Kidd last night-could not tell you who the actors were but Cody came in and said that the man that played Captain Kidd was in Strangers on a Train that he had to watch for English. Go figure!

Tag Tuesday Week 2

This is great! I saw it on my sister's blog. I did it right but now I want to cheat! Maybe the next tag will be doing it again but using the song titles that you want!

You Are What You Listen Too

Here's how it goes:
1) Set your iPod on shuffle.
2) Answer the following questions with the song titles.
3) No skipping!

How does the world see you?

How To Save a Life-The Fray (I am touched!)

Will I have a happy life?
I Need You All The Time-Blackhawk (apparently I am co-dependent or a stalker)

What do my friends really think of me?
Chiquita-ABBA

How can I make myself happy?
You Could Be Mine-Guns and Roses (I think this means that I need to shop!)

What should I do with my life?
Make Her Fall In Love With Me Song-George Strait (this is very unclear!)

Will I ever have children?
Maybe We Should Just Sleep On It-George Strait (open to interpretation-I’m thinking it means no!)

What is some good advice for me?
Ding Dong Merrily On High-Enoch Train (Don’t Worry Be Happy? or else I’m crazy)

How will I be remembered?
Living In America-James Brown (that is reassuring)

What is my signature dancing song?
Multiple Jacks-Pirates of the Carribbean 3 (I guess I am a mover and shaker)

What do I think my current theme song is?
It That Was A Lie-Blackhawk (absolutely no idea here!)

What does everyone else think my current theme song is?
Pretty Women-Sweeny Todd (Thanks I think!)

What song will play at my funeral?
Tequila Loves Me-Kenny Chesney (Ok that is pretty funny!)

What type of men/women do you like?
Away in a Manger-Betty Raymond ( think that means I like babies)

What is my day going to be like?
Little Wonders-Rob Thomas (ok on a purely spiritual level I think that is good right?)

Smorgasborg Saturday

So because there are many things that today can be I decided that it will be Smorgasborg Saturday and then write a few different thoughts on a few different Saturday musings.

My sister Suzanna suggested Saturday should be Sucky Saturday and that we get to complain about something so in honor of that but not to wallow in my pile of self pity here is my one sentence complaint for this morning.
I want my neck to stop hurting!!!
Now I allow any of you reading this to write one sentence-not one page or paragraph-but one sentence of complaint and then we will cheerfully move on to the other ideas I have for Saturday.

My next thought is Survival Saturday. Here is where we write about something that we have done this week to get prepared. That could be anything from purchasing something for our 72 hour kits or food storage, using some of our food storage in an attempt to rotate, finding a new recipe that we can use our food storage in, or learning a new trick or technique for preparedness. If we have not done any of these things then I think even if we have thought about any of these or read other blogs about food storage and preparedness then it counts. Maybe this will stimulate my brain into thinking about this stuff more because I know that I want to write about it on Saturday. This is what we have done this week in part because of the horrendous outcome of the election and because we try and do it anyway.
1. I used my food storage at least twice-now when I say food storage I am talking about the big #10 cans and not just the cans of spaghettios and boxes of cereal in my pantry. I made chicken and rice with my #10 can of rice and I made pumpkin wheat blender pancakes with whole wheat.
2. I looked into purchasing another freezer. We have the big stand up one and an extra fridge outside in the garage but I want the big deep freezer so I can have like a case of butter and those big 25# bags of flour and stuff like that that is hard to store in the upright freezer.
3. We are looking into getting more guns and ammo-should I write about that? With the way things look it may turnout that most of us will be unable to afford guns and ammo in the coming months because they will be taxed so high. BTW-When Don looked on the Cabella's website they were running low if not out of alot of ammo. Hey I have been gathering all this food storage and I dang well better be able to protect it. That's all I have to say about that.

The last part of Saturday's post is called Service Saturday. Here is where I want to remember service that has been done for me and what I have done this week to serve others, what I have seen others do for service or ideas for service especially with the holidays coming up.

There have been many people who have given service to me or my family so I will have to be write about just one at a time and this is not neccesarily in order of importance-just thoughts that come readily to mind. Now that I want to have this post then I can try and remember better and pay more attention.

I remember when I had my gallbladder out that my grandma came down and stayed for about a week to help out with the kids and the house and stuff. It was September of 2000 and Caleb was only 15 months old, Connor was almost 3 and Cody was in 2nd grade. My mom had to work and couldn't come so she sent my grandma instead. Mawmaw would get up every morning and send Don off to work with a hot breakfast. She would iron his work pants for him after she washed them. She then made breakfast again for my kids and got Cody off to school. When she made dinner and I did not feel like eating what she was making she would make me something different-usually grits but one night she made the family BBQ chicken and I did not really want that so she made me fried chicken instead. My mawmaw is awesome-she is always busy and doing something-whether that is cooking or sewing or knitting or making Christmas stockings for the kids, grandkids and spouses, and the great-grandkids. I can't even imagine how many stockings she has made over the years. She has even made some of us 2 of them because like mine that she made me 30 years ago is tearing up and I don't want it to get destroyed. Mawmaw still works at the MTC and goes down to the cannery at least once a week to dry can food storage. Mawmaw is amazing and my "Saturday Service Spotlight"-hah I just came up with another name!

What have I done for service this week?
I took flowers to a sick friend, took dinner into a woman who had surgery, and tomorrow I am subbing for Primary.
Family service for the week-my boys and husband are all around the corner at a older couple's home picking pomegranates for them. Don went on a campout with Connor's troop last night-major service in my opinion because I do not enjoy camping!

So now all of you blog-hoppers pick one or all of these ideas and post them for yourself or for all of us to read! Happy Saturday

One more thought-tomorrow will be Spiritual Sunday-here is where I want to remember the promptings and feelings of the spirit, something new or something I learned more profoundly this week, thoughts on scriptures or conference talks or Sunday lessons or Sacrament meeting. This may turn into a private post on my other blog-the one that is private-but I think that depending on what I write I can atleast post a spiritual thought for the week or something like that. You can too!:)

Flashback Friday

Most of my photo albums are in totes in preparation for the big move that never happened so in honor of Flashback Friday I grabbed the top photo album out of the box and started flipping pages. This album was actually from 2005 but this photo of Caleb for whatever reason was in it and in the wrong place. So because one of these things is not like the others I will use this picture today. Be very afraid for next week when I try and find some pics of me or Don from many moons ago.

This pic of Caleb is from October of 2000. He is 2 years and 4 months old. I love that little smile! If you can see the scratches on his face they are courtesy of Connor who constantly had to be digging or scratching someone and since Caleb was the slowest he usually was the recipient of said assault. I think that there are lots of pictures where Caleb has battle wounds. I guess it is just rewards that Caleb has gotten to be so much bigger than Connor. I love looking at pictures of my kids when they were little-they were so darn cute even though I was a walking zombie because no one ever slept through the night-ok Cayden started sleeping through the night when he was 2 months old because he found his thumb. This helpful habit is costing us thousands in Ortho care for Cayden but I will gladly pay for it as there were many nights of blissful sleep to the squeaky wet sounds of baby thumb thucky.

Thankful Thursday

I think my plan with this post is to just write about one thing that I am thankful for in detail as opposed to just listing what I am thankful for. I have been thinking all morning what I am thankful for today-of course there are many things but hopefully since this will be a weekly post I won't run out of things to be thankful for.
I am thankful for my husband.
My husband is such a great man. He always puts my needs first no matter what. I am so glad that he is in town this week. He drove me to my procedure yesterday and babied me all day after that. He made dinner last night and brought me dinner in bed. He played chauffeur to the kids last night and tried to keep them out of my hair so I could rest. He tries really hard to see that I don't overwork myself and he will help with the housework. Before he goes on trips he tries to get as much laundry done for me as he can so that I have one less thing to do while he is gone. He is very considerate of my feelings and always says that he is having a good day if I am having a good day. He works hard and is always trying to do more and be more so that he can show his value to the company so that he will be last on the list of layoffs. He takes his role very seriously as provider for our family and has always done his best so that I can stay home with the kids. He is always concerned for my comfort. If I am not feeling well he wants me to go and lay down so that I can feel better. He has no problem babying me which I suck up most days and let him when he is home. He is a very thoughtful and generous person. He would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need and is willing to go in the hole to help others. He does not complain-that is my job and he is always a glass half full kind of person. He is much more patient than I am with people in general and with the kids. He likes to play around with the boys and is a great dad. I could go on and on I'm sure but will stop now. I am always grateful for him and I thank Heavenly Father every day that he is my husband.

Wish Wednesday

I should have posted this yesterday but I had to go and get more injections in my neck and really did not feel like typing so here it is.

I really wish that I did not feel so guilty about leaving my kids and going and doing things on my own or for my self. Case in point-I just can not miss a Mayday. Every year I want to go to Women's Conference at BYU but every year it falls over Mayday. I know lots of ladies who have no problem going but I just can't miss my kids doing their dances and stuff. My husband assures me every year that all will be well and to just go but I can't do it. My anxiety riddled brain tells me that the one year that I do go will be the year that my kids will be telling their therapists about in 10 years. Don and I always talk about going on vacation together but we just never do it. I feel guilty leaving my kids and when we have gone on trips in the past I have been a nervous wreck and have no fun getting to our destination. I am great once we are there but getting there is hard to do. Even to go to Vegas and spend the night is hard for me to do. It's not that I think my kids will not be taken care of or that something will happen to them or us-ok that is a lie I do worry about something happening to them or us but that is not guilt but pure anxiety-I'll discuss that in another Wish Wednesday post. I even have issues with not being home when they get home from school. If I have to go to Vegas or something then I try and make sure that I am home by 3:30 when they get off the bus. If there are days that I can't make it home by the time that they come home I make sure that for the next few weeks I am home every day when they get here. I also have serious guilt issues about being a crappy mother. Most days I would not get the award for Mother of the Year. Forget about college or missions-my kids need a savings account just to pay for their future therapy appointments. I really hope that they have selective memory and remember that I was at every Mayday Dance and school program they ever did. That I was the room mother for at least one of them every year and that I brought in really creative treats to their classrooms if I could not actually be in their rooms playing games with their classes. Hopefully when all is tallied up and measured the scales will tip in my favor just enough to get me into the celestial kingdom and my kids will say "we did not doubt our mother knew it".

Memory Monday

So this is my new idea. Each Monday-if I can remember I want to post a memory that I have of holidays or events or something like that. You can copy me if you want! :) My friend Serena wanted us to start this sort of thing like last year but write out our memory and then print it out and put it in a binder so it would be a journal. She would give us monthly prompts and so now I guess I will finally do it now that she has moved far far away. This will be different from Flashback Friday because there will not be any pictures because that is just way too time consuming for a Monday.

Halloween Memory
A memory that I have of Halloween is when I was about 11 I think. We still lived in Lindon and my parents allowed me and a group of girls to go trick or treating all by ourselves. We were out a long time and we walked around our block and then up the road to the yellow church and back along the canyon road where Mark Nixon lived. Then back down the north road that took you to the church basically making a square. I think I was with Wendy, Raylene, Hollie and Lori. I was dressed up as a punk. I had big huge earrings-it was the 80's go figure!-and as many necklaces that I could find. I also had a pair of pink sunglasses on a pink lace around my neck that we had gotten when we were in Tijuana during the summer. Somewhere along our route I lost those glasses and I was so bummed! I remember that it was cold-like usual in Utah on Halloween. I also remember that there was at least one group of rotten boys that ran around trying to steal candy. I think that someone in our group got their pillowcase ripped out of their hands and stolen. Maybe I am confusing that with something else although I do remember that my brother Chris did get his candy stolen on Mawmaw's street one year when he was little. I told Don about that and he said it was a good thing that he was not there because he probably would not have come home until he had hunted down those dirty rotten jerks and beat them to death with the bucket full of candy. I have a few other memories of Halloween that include parties at friend's houses. One was a Kathryn Grigg's house where we watched Watcher in the Woods-this is consequently why I hunted high and low and even drove to St. George to get that movie from Hollywood Video for Cody and his party Saturday night. Remind me not to have a houseful of kids and let them watch a scary movie. The screaming started before we even hit play. Another party I went to one Halloween was at Allison Green's where Danny Redd drank a raw egg out of a glass and puked!

Don wanted me to put this in the other blog from Saturday but I forgot so here it is.

My memory from this Halloween is that Cayden practically electrocuted me with Halloween lights. I had asked Cody to get out the Halloween lights to make sure that they worked so that we could take them for our trunk. Well there was a set that was broken that had broken bulbs with the wires sticking out that he left on the floor. Just as I was picking that bunch up Cayden plugged them in. My wedding ring must have touched the exposed part of the light and I let out a blood curdling scream as the current pulsed through my hand. Don came running, Cody even got off the phone and came running and Cayden's lip started to quiver while I shook my hand to get the circulation to start again. I do not think that I want to expereience a Ben Franklin ever
again nor will I commit some heinous crime that necessitates the use of the electric chair to be the cause of my demise.

My next thought is Thankful Thursday throughout the month of November-or maybe all the time just because we should be grateful. Now you can think about your Thankful Thursday Thought too and post it. Ya know that there could be a whole week of different things if I wanted to get really crazy-Memory Monday, Tag Tuesday, can't think of anything for Wednesday, Thankful Thursday, Flashback Friday hmmm what for Saturday?

Happy Halloween! Enter If You Dare!

5th Grade Fear Factor

Donut game!

Thursday and Friday were fun-filled action packed days. The kids had Friday off from school because it was Nevada Day so their class parties were on Thursday. First, the classes all lined up for the annual Halloween Costume Parade around the school yard. They played scary music and the kids got to march along so all their parents could take pictures. Then they all went to their classes for their parties. I was the room mom for Caleb's class so I was in charge of the party. Thankfully there are 2 other mom's who will be in charge for Christmas and then Valentine's. I volunteered for Halloween because I think it is the funnest party to do. We played Fear Factor with the 5th grade. Don and I spent 2 days thinking up really gross names for stuff that the kids had to eat. I had them pick a paper out of a cauldron and then what ever # it had on it is the item that they had to eat. I had jellyfish guts-cherry jello, swamp mud-chocolate pudding, mummy skin-dried apples, witches warts-dried cranberries, goblin ears-dried apricots, mashed brains and eyeballs-red macaroni and gummy eyeballs, rat bones-pretzels, bat wings with cat liver-cracker with cheese. Most of the girls were pretty squeamish but the boys thought it was great-most of them anyway. The kids played another game with another mom where they had to eat the donut off the string without hands and they decorated cookies with another mom. After the games they got to eat tons of food. There was so much food brought in it was ridiculous. I'm glad that the Trunk or Treat was on Friday and not Thursday night. Don was there to help me set up and then to help ensure that any puking was done in the garbage bag-luckily no one decided to get sick. He also was the photog and went to Cayden's class to get a few pics too.

This part gets a little bit grosser so here is your fair warning. Read on if you dare other wise skip ahead.
Friday we spent getting ready for Trunk or Treat. Don and I decided that we wanted to do Fear Factor at our trunk so we spent the day making more gross stuff and getting ready. I called Dena and told her my idea and she said that she would do Extreme Fear Factor at her trunk next to us and that she would go to the oriental food place and buy some really icky stuff. She bought smoked eel-troll's tongue, pigs feet, dried anchovies-dragon scales, sardines in tomatoe paste-fish guts, quail eggs-goblin tonsils, dried squid-seamonster tail and then I made wheat cereal-maggot stew, canned peas-eye of newt and bloody fingernails-onions in tomatoe paste. It was pretty disgusting. We had kids bringing over their friends and adults just coming over to see what we had come up with. Some of the kids were braver than the adults. One little boy told his mom that he did not want to go the "witches trunk" because all they had was "witches food". We still gave out candy too! The Trunk or Treat was a 3 ward combined activity. There was not a great turnout for trunks and they ran out of candy but the kids get to go around the parking lot at least 3-4 times and everyone gives out more than one piece of candy so it's not like any one missed out. There was also chili, hotdogs, face painting, a fish pond and a cake walk. Connor was the only one of us to win a cake-darn it! I really wanted 3 more cakes to throw away tomorrow!

Connor's German Chocolate cake that he won from the cake walk.

Cayden is a pumpkin.

Cody is a smartie pants or smart ***.

Connor is a football player, Caleb is a pirate, Cody is a smart*** and Cayden is a pumpkin.

Cody and his friend Jordan. AARRRGGGHH!

Me and Dena-we usually have the same idea for costumes even though we don't even talk about it. We even have the same idea for next year!

The Trunk!

The table.
Cody has a party tonight here with some friends. I tried all week to find Watcher in the Woods for them to watch but I can't find it. Curse you Netflix! Cody also went to a party last night after the Trunk or Treat. He is starting to do that now-oh no!
So can I put away all the Halloween stuff and start playing Christmas music?
