Walmart Worker

So yes.  Cody is employed at Walmart.  He is not however still employed at Lin's.  It ends up working out though I guess.  He interviewed for both jobs on the same day,  got both jobs the next day and started work a day or two later.  He worked a few shifts at Lin's before he got his schedule at Walmart.  Those schedules conflicted on Wednesday last week so he called Lin's to ask them if he could trade shifts because he was working 2 jobs.  They wanted to know where else he was working and when they found out it was "a competitor" they told him that he would have to choose.  Well since Lin's was only offering him 10 hours a week and Walmart was offering him atleast 30 he opted for Walmart.  I told him that Lin's lost a good employee.  He is working almost 40 hours for the next few weeks while Walmart does inventory.  He is really happy there and says that they treat their employees really good.  The only problem is the transportation part.  We only have 2 cars and have 3 drivers.  We don't want to drive Cody back and forth to Mesquite everyday so he is taking one of our cars and that leaves us a little in the lurch.  Hopefully now though with all his big bucks he can get himself a car soon.

Cody is officially employed!!!!  He actually has 2 jobs right now.  One is at Lin's in Overton and the other is at Walmart in Mesquite.  We don't quite know how this is all going to work out especially the transportation part of it but we will figure it out.  He interviewed for both jobs on the same day.  At Lin's he interviewed for a freight position that was graveyard shift.  They called him later that afternoon and said that they filled the freight position but that they really wanted to give him a job but they just weren't sure what it was going to be.  He had an orientation on Wednesday 4-17 and then started there on Friday.  I told him that they must want him to work with the public and not relegate him to the back room in the middle of the night.  He actually had 2 interviews at Walmart.  One on Monday and then again on Tuesday.  They hired him in the grocery department.  He doesn't have a schedule yet for Walmart.  Hopefully between the 2 he can get 40 hours!  Woo hoo!!!!  

Cody and Calley Meet Kyle

Friday September 16 Cody and Calley came down to visit.  Calley got the special privilege of changing Kyle's bum and Cody got the privilege of putting together Kyle's new baby swing from Aunt Dena and her family.  Cody spent alot of his weekend holding Kyle on his chest and both of them sleeping on the couch.

No Go Car Go

Cody had a little incident with the car the week before we left for Provo with him which consequently left us with a car we could not drive until we got it fixed. He got stuck in the sand on the way to the reservoir and tried to pull the car out by the little hook in the trunk that keeps the trunk closed.  After 2 hours of trying to get it out with his friend Justin he had Justin bring him home and he told me what happened.  Don was out of town of course so we called Grandpa and Justin called his dad who is a highway patrol  Between the 4 of them they got the car out.  The trunk was damage so much that it would not close.  The car sat in the driveway for 6 weeks until we found a local guy to fix. He fixed it really cheaply considering the damage.  It cost us $1500 with him rebuilding the hook himself instead of buying a whole new back end.  You could not just buy the little hook you had to buy the whole piece and it would have cost $3200.  As a bonus the guy hooked us up with a buyer-who just happened to be the guy we bought it from and so we sold it the day it was fixed.  I am sad to see that car go but I can't fit in it myself and it will not be very easy to use when the baby comes. 

Priesthood Power

I forgot to post about this when we were in Utah but I thought it was important.  I can't remember which day it was exactly but it was the last week of June, maybe the 28 or 29, while we were in Provo.  Larry's daughter and her family are living with my parents right now and Quentin, the husband was at work that day and fell and sprained his ankle really bad.  Later that night after they got back from the doctor, their family's home teacher came over.  He asked Quentin if he wanted a blessing and he said yes so Cody got to anoint while the other guy gave the blessing.  That was the first time Cody was able to use his newly acquired Melchezidek priesthood.  It was quite exciting for him and for us. 

Melchezidek Priesthood Ordination

Sunday, June 12 was Cody's Melchezidek Priesthood Ordination.  In the circle were Don, Grandpa Don, Granddaddy Larry, Uncle Chris Gessel, Uncle Chris Zundel, our Bishop, Bishop Evans and Bryce Hardy from the Stake High Council.  We did the ordination right after Sacrament meeting-where Cody led the opening song incidentally-and then went home to get Grandma Penny, Granddaddy and Mawmaw on their way home.  Uncle Chris and Aunt Anne stayed until Monday.

Eagle Court of Honor

Saturday, June 11 was Cody's Eagle Court of Honor.  The Court of Honor was also for 3 other boys in our ward, Brad Mulcock, Haydn Waite, and Daniel Gourdin.  Getting this together was a long time in coming.  We tried for months to get this together and finally decided that the weekend after graduation would work the best because all the families would be down for the graduation anyway.  We held the court at the Stake Center in the Relief Society Room and then had a light dinner in the cultural hall.  Mark Prisbrey conducted the meeting and Kent Barlow was the speaker.  With the huge help of my brother I put together a power point video of the boys and their projects.  After each boy received their Eagle pins from their moms, and pinned their mom and dad pins on their parents, they were able to give a pin to a mentor. Cody chose to give his pin to Uncle Chris Gessel.  It was very sweet and very unexpected.  After the ceremony we moved to cultural hall for a dinner of sub sandwiches, potato salad, frog eye salad, beans, chips and pumpkin chocolate chip cookies.  For the decorations in the cultural hall we borrowed Bill Belcher's great flag collection and Wendy Mulcock made the table displays of balloons, flags and red, white and blue table cloths and napkins.  All the moms put this together and it turned out great. 

Grad Night Party

After graduation the seniors were all invited to a party at the Adams Ranch.  Every year the Adams' host a party for the seniors.  Parents provide the supervision, games and food plus there was swimming, prizes and drawings all night long.  Cody won prizes ( a gift certificate and an Itunes card) in 2 games and then won some cash in the drawing.  The kids had steak, potatoes, salad, rolls and cupcakes.  I spent a few hours in the afternoon making graduation cap cupcakes for the party.  The kids partied until about 3 and then went to the mesa to watch the sunrise.  Cody was home around 6:30am. 

The Graduation

Cody's graduation was held at the Moapa Valley High School outside on the football field.  In the past graduation was held in the gym but with the valley getting bigger and the graduating class getting bigger it was getting harder and harder to accomodate everyone.  The last few years there have only been  6 tickets given to each graduate for family to attend because of limited space but this year they gave out 10 per graduate for early seating and then they opened the gates at 7:45 for anyone else who wanted to come in.  It took a long time for the kids to walk out to Pomp and Circumstance because they  had them walk and stop and walk and stop. The graduating class had 5 valedictorians who each spoke and then the principal spoke as well as a lady from the district.  After the graduation ceremony lots of pictures were taken on the football field.

For Cody's graduation dinner we had carne asada, lime rice, beans, and all the taco fixings as well as fruit and marshmellow dip.  Aunt Dena bought 2 bundt cakes, lemon and red velvet, two of Cody's favorites.  The Zundels, Dave and Amy, Darbie, Chris, Anne and Lexie, Grandma Dottie and Grandpa Don, Grandma Penny and Granddaddy Larry and Cody's friends, Justin Jourdan and Jordan Hanevold.  We ate dinner and then Cody opened his plethora of presents.  The kid made a haul in cash!  Thank you to everyone for your love and support of him and for being sooooo generous!

Sunday, June 5 was Baccalaureate.  Every year it used to be held at the Stake Center because there was not a big enough place to hold everyone but a few years ago the Catholic church was able to build a big church out here so from then on we have traded off locations.  It was a very windy day.  I tried to get a picture of him coming in to the graduation music but I was not fast enough.  It was a super short program, only 30 minutes from start to finish.  Loved it!  There was a prayer, a speaker, a song and a prayer.  The speaker was an Air Force colonel from San Diego who was related to one of the senior girls.  Then there were cookies and punch outside.  Cody was not super thrilled to do all these "senior" things but ended up participating because ya know, your supposed to.

A Seminary Graduate

After much cajoling and threatening and finally 140 makeup assignments in 2 days, Cody graduated from seminary.  On Thursday, June 2 the seminary graduation was held at the Stake Center.  It was short and sweet and lasted about an hour.  We were wondering if he was going to make it at all because out of 16 quarters that he needed credit for, he only had 5 which is why he had so many makeup assignments.  I printed off the makeup work for him atleast twice but it somehow disappeared both times.  He pulled it out though and we are very proud of him.

Bakey McBakerton

Cody made this awesome 5 tiered cake for his friend's surprise birthday party today.  Now he gets to mop the kitchen floor!

Major Boo Boo

Well it had to happen sooner or later.  Cody was backing out of his Aunt's driveway and proceeded to scrape the $&** out of the side of the car along her block wall around her driveway.  Ironically Don and I were just talking about selling the car that very day.  Luckily the wall was not damaged and there were no other people involved.  Anyone got an extra $500?  Oh right-he has a job and will be paying the deductible to get it fixed!  As a bonus-we just spent $465 for new brakes, tire rotation and serpentine belt 2 weeks ago.  Awesome!

Fa La La La La

Cody sang with our local Valley Voices for their Christmas concert.  He only went to practice a few times but he still sang beautifully!  (December 15, 2010)
