Happy Birthday Caleb and the Top 10 Reasons Caleb Mitchell Adams Rocks!

Saturday June 21, was Caleb's 10th birthday. He was born on Father's Day and was the only gift that Don got that year because I had been in the hospital and then on bedrest for a week before he was born. Don says that he does not even remember not getting any other gifts but I do. Caleb was a huge babby-ok huge for me and really long. He had the biggest feet of any baby ever born and when we saw his feet right after he was born I commented that those were the planks that had been stabbing me in the ribs for the previous few months. He was also a very loud baby and could really belt it out when he was not happy. I would have made this post sooner but we are out of town and actually were on the way to St. George to see Les Mis at Tuacahn on Saturday. Caleb chose to go to Texas Roadhouse for his birthday dinner. It was a long wait but worth it-except for the fact that all the boys except Cody filled up on cheese fries and rolls before there dinner came so they took their leftovers back to the hotel for a late night snack. We gave Caleb an Ipod case, an Ipod dock speaker thing and some clothes. He also got a digital camera and Bee Movie and National Treasure 2. All his aunts and uncles gave him giftcards or good old dinero so that he could purchase what he wanted. He immediately went to Walmart to get a skateboard and Connor thoughtfully brought his helmet and pads in the hopes that Caleb would get a skateboard for his birthday. We drove to Provo Sunday morning after a delightful night at the Hampton Inn and breakfast at Village Inn-they have super yummy crepes! Mawmaw made a great dinner for everyone and we sat around and talked till almost 9. Monday morning Cody went to his Summer Scholars camp and Connor and Caleb went to their football camp. Both camps last all week. And now without further ado

The Top 10 Reasons Why Caleb Mitchell Adams Rocks!

1. Caleb is very tenderhearted person. His love language is definitely words. It does not take much to hurt his feelings so we have to be extra careful when we say things to him.

2. Caleb is a peacemaker. Especially when others are not behaving Caleb tries extra hard to be good and helpful. He gets along really well with others and has lots of friends.

3. Caleb is our family Drama King. He is quite melodramatic and tends to have cows sometimes. He is also the dancer of the family and has good rhythm. You can find him quite often singing and dancing in front of the mirror using anything-toothbrush, spoon etc as a microphone. He wants to show us his new moves all of the time and of course has sound effects to go with them.

4. Caleb is our Fashion King too. He always wants to look good with his hair done and occasionally before I catch him douse himself in cologne. He likes to wear the layered look even in the summer when it is hot.

5. He goes through shoes the way others go through toilet paper. Mostly because his feet are always growing. He is currently in a men's size 8 and I cannot buy him shoes without him being there to approve (see #4)

6. Caleb is very smart. He has a very high reading level-one of the highest in his class and he also won his class Spelling Bee and was able to go the school Spelling Bee. He gets good grades and picks things up really easily. When he was younger he would ask really analytical questions and questions that you had to think about. He would usually figure out the answer by himself and then tell us just to confirm he was right.

7. Caleb does not like to be scared or watch scary things. He likes to sleep in mom's room on nights that Connor sleeps over at grandma's house.

8. Caleb must have a hollow leg because he can really chow down. We are amazed sometimes at the amount of food that he eats. He loves ice cream and especially Grandpa Don's milkshakes.

9. Caleb is very tall-as noted by his shoe size he will probably be 7 feet tall.

10. Caleb is a lefty like his dad. This did not make him happy though when he was playing baseball because most righthand pitchers tended to hit him with the ball.

**Bonus 11. When Caleb was 5, Don had the Lasic procedure on his eyes that did not go very well. Before that happened we had read the scripture story about Jesus making the mud and putting it in the blind man's eyes and then he could see. One day Caleb and Connor were talking and Caleb told Connor that he wished that Jesus would just come down and put mud in dad's eyes so then he could see. We were very impressed that he remembered the story and that he had such great faith in Jesus.

Because Don and I are going to Dallas tomorrow. I was unaware of until recently that Father's Day was the 15 not the 22 so we had to make some adjustments. We made yummy Hobo dinners in the oven and used veggies from our garden and chicken and smoked sausage. Then Don went to his friend's house who has a huge smoker and got a huge smoked pork roast and some ribs so that made his day even better. After he got home the kids and I gave him his presents. He got a rod and reel case for his fishing pole-to those of you that sent him $ for his birthday he is deciding if he want a new gun or a new fishing pole. He also got a new pair of tennis shoes and the 3 Indiana Jones movies which just happened to be on sale at Target. Don is the best dad these boys could have. He is much more patient than me and always wants everyone to be happy even at the expense of himself sometimes. We are so glad that he's the dad!

To our other dad's on Father's Day

Larry is the greatest stepdad/grandddaddy any one could have. We appreciate his love of my mom and how kind and gentle he is to everyone. We appreciate how he is always willing to take the boys to the park and will fix them something to eat any time of the day or night. He look up to him for his Christ-like example and how he looks at things with such a spiritual perspective. We love you Larry!


Grandpa Don is the greatest grandpa around town! We love how he always takes the boys on Rhino rides and frog hunting. We know he loves these boys! He is always there to help out especially when Don is gone and I have car trouble or water heater trouble or even trouble with the boys. He is the family cake baker for birthdays and is the best pasta maker ever! We love you Grandpa!



To my dad who has been gone for 14 years now. He was a great dad to us and always wanted to make sure that we felt special. He used to come into our rooms at night before bedtime and ask the same series of questions every single night determined to help us remember who we were and what we wanted to do as we got older-go on missions, go to college, get married in the temple etc. He was very generous to those around us and to his family. He was a hard worker and loved to run and garden. I can still see him running down the street in Salt Lake at one of his many marathons or outside in the backyard garden in Lindon with his tiller tilling the ground to get it ready to plant. I can see him with Calley asleep on his chest when she was a baby and see him digging through the snow to find the water shut off because the basement was flooding because of a broken pipe. I can see him the day that Suzanna swallowed a quarter trying to get it out of her so she could breathe and I can see him pulling me and Chris out of the pool in Cedar City the day that Chris decided he could jump in and I had to save him. He always bought us girls corsages for Mother's Day and of course one for my mom. He loved to buy my mom jewelry and hid his present buying money in an old piggy bank with a hole in one of the feet. Cayden, who has never met my dad (at least on this side of the veil) said the other day when we were talking about him "I miss Grandpa Kim". I do too! Happy Father's Day Dad. We love you!

Deep in the Heart of Texas

So to all of you who may not know-we are considering moving to Texas. Yes, the land of George Strait, the Cowboys (my husband may veto the whole thing) boots, bulls, and George W. Don got offered a big promotion about 6 weeks ago and we have been prayerfully and anxiously considering this for our family. Don and I are going down to Dallas on Sunday to check out the area and get a feel for things. We have contacted a realtor down there through LDS agents.com and she has sent us a ton of houses to look at. We have narrowed down our choices because we only have a few days to be there and then we have to make a decision pretty quickly. It looks like everything is heading "south" haha so if all works out then hopefully we will be down there before school starts. The company said that they would buy our house-kind of worries me though because the market is in the toilet- and bring in a moving company to move us so it all looks pretty good so far. We will know more next week. Good news though-there is a Sonic not to far from where we are looking at houses so all is not lost-hooray for Happy Hour! I have 3 step-sisters and 1 step brother that live in the area so at least we won't be totally alone and it seems like anyone that we talk to about this knows someone in Dallas and I am not kidding you! Also the church is still true in Texas apparently!

Kung Fu Funny!

We took the kids to see Kung Fu Panda today and it was pretty darn funny! Plus it was only an hour and a half! To my family who loves to quote movies-there are some pretty good ones from this show and so I recommend going to see! You have to go with low expectations and in the mood to laugh at stupidity. Think Nacho Libre!

Not on My To Do List Today

So yesterday Cody had the brilliant idea to rearrange his room. He said that he had not done it for 4 years and since he has not liked having his TV on his desk he wanted to to the old switcheroo. So that was all well and good until the other boys decided that they wanted to rearrange their rooms too. This was so not what I wanted to do today. It is not just a matter of moving the furniture but you have to clean under and behind the furniture once you've moved it before the other furniture can be moved into its place. That includes wiping the baseboards. OCD I know. So Connor and Caleb were able to manage pretty good on their own with a little help from Cody and dad. Oh yes, Cody was Mr. Helpy Helperton because this was all his doing! I did not want to move Cayden's around because A. His room was a mess from last night and B. There were many other things on the agenda today-none of which included the rearranging of rooms. He was so sad though because we told him no a few times and plus he moves his kitchen, his nightstand and the toy box almost on a daily basis anyway we thought we could just get away with moving those around again but OH NO we had to move the bed because everyone else moved their beds. Need less to say it took all morning and so the numerous things on my to do list are not getting done. The rooms look ok now and at least the boys are all satisfied.

Caleb and Cub Scout Daycamp

Thursday-Saturday was Cub Scout Daycamp for Caleb. It was from 8-12:30 everyday. I went on Thursday as a chperone and so I took a few pics. They got to make a leather craft, shoot BB guns and bows and arrows, make an omelet in a plastic bag and Caleb's favorite part-launching water bottle rockets. He had the system figured out so good that his bottles flew the highest. Everyone wanted him to show them how he was doing it. The next day they got to go swimming, fishing, do map and compass, make ice cream and play volleyball and then on Saturday they got to make puppets, catapults, sombrero neck ties, went through the Fire Department's smoke house and learned a skit. He had a good time and it was very well organized. Almost as good as when I was in charge!:)
