Deep Thoughts

"Great things are brought about and burdens lightened through the efforts of many hands “anxiously engaged in a good cause.” Imagine what the millions of Latter-day Saints could accomplish in the world if we functioned like a beehive in our focused, concentrated commitment to the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ." M. Russell Ballard October 2012 General Conference

The First Week of School-Is It Friday Yet?

This post is an attempt to keep myself awake because it is only 6:30pm and this day not over yet.

Well the long hot summer is over here in Logandale-(Oh wait...the summer is over but it is still HOT! (check your map we are south of Hell) Didn't you know that it is supposed to be 107 degrees the first week of school? I restrained myself all summer long from writing some fabulously sarcastic post on the joys of Southern Nevada in the summer but I am slightly disgruntled-ok who are we kidding-really ticked off that many of the blogs that I stalk and some of the posts on Facebook (you know who you are!)rejoice in the delirium that is Fall. Somewhere other than here is the slight hint of changing leaves in the air and the earthy scent of freshly milled spiral bound notebooks wafting through open windows. School has started but Southern Nevada never gets the memo on cooling off just because the kids are back in school. Yes, the sounds of the school buses driving through my neighborhood at least 5 times a day,the bathroom door slamming at 4:45 IN THE MORNING, 100 lb backpacks full of hand sanitizer (Swine Flu ya know)and mechanical pencils because it is so not cool to have to sharpen a #2, and the smells of AXE deodorant and stinky (but cute) boy sweat emanating from my house does mean the kids are back to school but that does not make it Fall. Fall in Logandale starts in about November unless you are up at 5:00 (oh wait I am!)in the morning. At 5am, the temperature gauge surprisingly drops below 80 degrees and you can open your windows. That only lasts until about 6am when the sun starts blazing its way over the mesa to inflict great harm and psychological damage to all inhabitants greatly misinformed that School equals Cool-weather that is. You may ask why I am getting up at 5am and I'll tell you why.
4 kids going to
3 different schools at
3 different times from
5:55am to 8:45am
equals
0 minutes of time for ones self in the morning after the little darlings have rolled out of their beds.
I'm sure that is old news to some of you and you may be wondering why I am griping. Well, because our summer was of the SUPER lazy sort and most days there was no movement around here other than Don before 9:30. We kept General Mills in business this summer because I think I "made" breakfast maybe 5 times. All good mothers know that the last week of summer should include morning drills practicing the early rising techniques required when school starts and even occasional meals not eaten off paper plates just to get back in the groove. Our philosophy around here is why start the misery early when you can relish in the joy of JAG reruns at 12:30am and bury your head in the pillows until the neighbor kids ring the doorbell at 10am only to find out that your kids just barely got up? Am I rambling enough for you? We will take a short break for a trip to the Stake Center for mutual now and return later. Stay tuned for more of the ramblings of a mad woman on the First Week of School. I have not even told you all that has happened other than getting up before the neighbor's chickens! I have to go find my Zanax-I just got my power bill!

6 Happy Thoughts:

Cook Family

I'm right there with you! It is still hot here in Texas and will be until Octoberish. I too didn't bother trying to get back into a routine until absolutely necessary - I think we are wise beyond our years.
Are you saying there is something wrong with cereal for breakfast? Please don't tell my kids that some moms actually cook breakfast.
On the bright side I have 2 more years before the super early mornings start and I'm already plotting how to get out of it.

Gerilyn

Ahhh I love how you tell it like it is and don't try to sugar coat everything! I am soooo sick of the heat, and even worse I hate that we don't see fall here.

Penny

MORE! MORE! MORE! MORE! Tell me MORE! I want all of it! Tell me every bit of the story!!!! Ravings of a mom-in-action are fun to read. LOL

Suzanna

Bummer that you have to get up so early in the morning! I honestly couldn't do it.

P.S. I loved your update on Facebook about Cayden and the donut. That's hilarious!

Calley

Yikes. I am sorry about the infamous Logandale heat, but I am also not lauding the wonders of a fall cooldown. Just know that I am right there with you, albiet 400 miles away, hiking UPHILL around campus from the hours of 9 am to 2 pm in 95 degree heat. Then, when that's all over, I get to do it in the SNOW. Lol!

Sherrie

I needed a laugh!!! Thank you so much for all your help this week. I look forward to your calls. My kids were so excited to have juice in the house again. The simple things in life. Thanks for your yummy dinner, listening ear and going shopping for us!!!!!
