Deep Thoughts

"Great things are brought about and burdens lightened through the efforts of many hands “anxiously engaged in a good cause.” Imagine what the millions of Latter-day Saints could accomplish in the world if we functioned like a beehive in our focused, concentrated commitment to the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ." M. Russell Ballard October 2012 General Conference

Thankful Thursday

I am thankful for music.
The Motabs really just help some times and then there's other times when only Aerosmith will do it. I love Erasure, The Beatles, The Cure, George Strait, The Police and the Cars. I love the old twangy country songs and a little of the new stuff that has come out. I could see George Strait in concert a million times other than the beer-drinking floozys that usually sit right behind me. The seminary Scripture Mastery Songs are great. My kids love to listen to them and they really know some scriptures now. I love Broadway musicals and have been known to blare Les Mis or Phantom or Man of La Mancha at ear piercing decibels from my car.

I am thankful I am able.
Some days it hurts and some days I just would rather stay in bed but I know that there are many who hurt more than me and many who are not able to do as much as me. I remember about 6 years ago a neighbor was out working in their yard and I said something like "that looks like fun" and their reply back was I am just glad that I am able to do it. Good lesson.

I am thankful for the days when I really don't HAVE to do anything.
Those days are few and far between but it's a blessing and a curse. Some days I would kill to not have go anywhere or do anything because of the days where I run from the minute I get up to the minute I go to bed.

I am thankful for conference.
I look forward to April and October and try really hard to not have anything to do on Conference weekend so we can all watch it together. I use the term watch loosely but we are all around for Saturday usually and conference is on in every room so that you just can't miss it. Sunday is the day for blankets and pillows and crackers and cheese on the family room floor with an occasional cat nap or two. I love to hear the messages and try to find a theme for the whole conference and I especially try to remember and write down something specific from each talk. I also love getting the conference issue of the Ensign to read and reread for 6 months.

I am thankful for hoodys.
Yeah yeah I know it sounds weird but I love hoodys even though they are hard to put on and mess up your hair and makeup and even though everyone wears them. I would like to wear them all the time just because they are comfortable but it usually too hot here.
I finally wore a hoody walking this morning and it was lovely.

I am thankful for my knowledge of the gospel and the foundation and anchor that it is.
Some days it is so hard to keep going and to be happy but having the gospel gives me a boost sometimes just to keep putting one foot in front of the other. I feel so sad for those that are bereft of hope and have nothing to look forward to. The gospel gives hope and regardless of the trials and troubles I am having there is a light at the end of the tunnel and it is not a train (even though I feel like it sometimes)

I am thankful for books.
This year has not been a great year for good reads but when I get a good book I revel in it and love to lay around reading. I used to stay up all night trying to finish a book but that has not happened for a long time partly because I have not found anything that engaging and because I am so tired from having to get up so early. I love to read and I am grateful that I can read.

I am thankful for the scriptures
I find that when I am consistent and diligent in seeking that the Lord is really helpful. He may not stop the rain but atleast He gives me an umbrella.

I am thankful for the angels that the Lord sends into my life.
There are days when I just can't do anymore and then I utter a prayer and my inlaws call and offer to help and then spend hours slaving with me over 7th grade math. There are angels that help me out just by being positive and happy. There are angels at the grocery store who help me lug out all my groceries and angels at the schools where my kids go who help and encourage and inspire them. My sisters and sisters-in-laws are angels. My visiting teaching partner is an angel and occasionally my kids are angels. There are many of the "noble and great ones" that help me every day.

I am thankful for my husband.
He makes the bed and brings me donuts. He puts me to bed and tells me he will take care of everything when I am beyond exhausted and can't quit crying. He does not complain about anything. He is always concerned about my happiness usually to the detriment of his own. He works hard and plays hard. He won't go to bed until everyone else has and he does not like to fight. He is learning to just say "yes dear" and "I'm sorry dear" and not try to always fix things but he earnestly wants to and would fix everything if he could.

These are in no particular order and I think everyone should do Thankful Thursday-especially if you had a Whining Wednesday. I should do this every Thursday.
