Deep Thoughts

"Great things are brought about and burdens lightened through the efforts of many hands “anxiously engaged in a good cause.” Imagine what the millions of Latter-day Saints could accomplish in the world if we functioned like a beehive in our focused, concentrated commitment to the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ." M. Russell Ballard October 2012 General Conference

Sick, Sicky, Sicker and Sickier

Alright already!  The last 6 weeks have been a hack fest at our house.  It all started with Caleb when he went on a camp out with the scouts.  They had their Spring Camporee On May 6-7 out at the reservoir and only spent one night out there.  A day or so later Caleb started coughing.  He coughed for 2 weeks and missed a few days of school because of it.  I finally took him to the doctor on May 23 and he got an antibiotic.  He was coughing during the play but he really wanted to do it.  His cough lasted forever and here it is July and he still has it hanging on a bit.  He went to the doctor on  June 21 for a physical for scout camp and Don told the doctor he was still coughing some.  The doctor said that it was a viral thing that most people had for 4-6 weeks.  Well we are going on almost 7 weeks with it!  This thing has been passed around to all of the kids and Cayden was the next to get it.

Cayden started coughing the Friday of Memorial Weekend.  We were going to go to see Kung Fu Panda 2 that Friday after school but he was coughing too much.  We missed church on Sunday and had a pretty sad Memorial Day because he was coughing so bad.  He missed the next 5 days of school.  I took him to the Quickcare in Mesquite on Tuesday, May 31 and he got an antibiotic and a steroid and stuff for the nebulizer and then a cough medicine.  He still gets the croup when he gets sick but it is just with the cough and not the scary breathing croup.  The poor kid did not sleep worth darn for many moons even with the humidifier going full blast, all of the meds and even Mentholatum on his feet and chest.  I had to take him back to the doctor again on June 6 because he was on his 9 day of meds and still not getting much better.  I sent him to school on Tuesday June 7 but his teacher called and said that he was coughing so hard that he could not do his work.  I was worried about Whooping Cough at that point after talking to a friend who said that there was a boy in our ward who really did have whooping cough.  The doctor at the 2nd appointment gave him another antibiotic and another cough medicine that did help him sleep better.  He went to the 2nd to last day of school which was water day but he did not participate much because of the coughing.  Even though he is doing much better it will be 5 weeks tomorrow that he started this mess.  He still coughs when he drinks milk, has ice cream or a milkshake and when he runs around alot. Dancing at Ashley's wedding during the fun fast songs got him coughing really hard.

Connor got sick too.  We took him to the doctor the very next day after we took Cayden the first time. June 1 we took him to the Quickcare in Mesquite.  That whole week our local doctor was out of the office so it made for some fun trips.  He got his own antibiotic and cough medicine.  All 3 kids had 3 different antibiotics.  Connor got the Zpac which we were told would be better if it was whooping cough.  Here it is July 1 and Connor is still coughing probably the worst of them all.  He went back to the doctor on June 21 when Caleb went for his physical and the doctor listened to both of them and said that both of their lungs sounded fine and it was just the viral thing that lasted FOREVER.

Cody started his own coughing that last week of school but it was just a little until the weekend we came to Provo which was June 24.  He was up late almost every night packing his room and the night before we left he was on the computer at 3am and he was coughing so much he woke me up.  He went to the Quickcare here in Provo when we got to Provo Sunday night and got his own Zpac and cough medicine.  He was much better by Tuesday morning.  Better enough to start his new job at Jamba Juice.  His has been the fastest recovery it seems.

Enough already.  That is 4 kids seeing 6 doctors with 9 different prescriptions over the course of 6 weeks.  I have been feeling a bit of a cough come on in the mornings and I will be quite put out if I get the full blown thing because this baby does not like me to cough or sneeze or laugh for that matter!
