Deep Thoughts

"Great things are brought about and burdens lightened through the efforts of many hands “anxiously engaged in a good cause.” Imagine what the millions of Latter-day Saints could accomplish in the world if we functioned like a beehive in our focused, concentrated commitment to the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ." M. Russell Ballard October 2012 General Conference

I Think

So I have a serious gripe-yesterday Cody, Caleb and I went to Vegas to see Harry Potter. We had to make a quick Walmart stop and as we are waiting at the stoplight to turn there was a man standing on the corner holding "an out of work please help" sign. Now I normally don't think twice about helping someone because we are supposed to be like the Savior but seriously this man stood there on the corner holding his sign in the huge Walmart parking lot surrounded by every store you can thnk of, it is 112 degrees and HE HAS HIS SON WITH HIM! This boy could not have been more than 10 at the most. I gave him $5 anyway but I fussed about it for 10 minutes. That probably was not the best example for my kids but maybe I get half points for atleast giving him the money. That parking lot and the one across the street were full of businesses with a brand new Target going in next door. I was really disturbed to see this guy using his son to get a few bucks when he could have gotten a job at anyone of those places in about 2 seconds.
Here are a few of my other thoughts for your reading pleasure.
1. I think that dogs should not shed.
2. I think that I hate I hate I hate dog hair.
3. I think that I should get lots and lots of bonus points for allowing the dog into the house. (He is in his kennel but he still has to walk on my floor and of course he has to shake himself a few times for good measure.)
4. I think that chocolate cake should be fat free and calorie free but actually taste good.
5. I think that 116 should be against the law.
6. I think that children should levitate for atleast 24 hours after the floor has been mopped.
7. I think Hannah Montana should stop being so irritating.
8. I think that Itunes should stop sticking to all of us loyal customers. Do you know that they are now charging $1.29 for the "popular" songs when it used to $.99?
9. I think that companies offering to help you get out of debt should not CHARGE you for their service.
10. I think that bobbins should wind themselves.
11. I think that Dumbledore should not be dead-the first guy that played him too.
12. I think that summer should be September-November or March-May.
13. I think that if you are on the Do Not Call list you should not be called.
14. I think that if you exercise in the summer you should burn double the calories.
15. I think that flip flops are my favorite footwear.

A Pox Upon You Sewing Machine

Or in otherwords entitled Disaster of the Day or I Suck at Sewing! I found a way cute "32 Minute Messenger Bag" tutorial on some blog and after 2 and 1/2 hours I decided that I was not meant to sew. I told Cayden I would make him a "manbag" since he so intent on using my extra purses and bags. I just can't read a tutorial even though it had pictures and really simple instructions. Sherri McConnell I am not ! About 2 hours into the fiasco I went out to the front room and Cayden asked if his bag was done. I told him that mommy just could not do it and that I was sorry. He was so sweet. He just said "It's ok mommy." Well that is when I pulled myself up by my bootstraps-ok flipflops because it is 115 outside and I just added a strap to the first pocket I had. It was more of a crap bag than a man bag but he was thrilled anyway even though I TOTALLY SUCK!! I really have all these grand ideas-I would really like to make a quilt for our bed but if I can't master a simple bag then I probably would end up stabbing myself to death with the seamripper trying to make an actual quilt. My office is a disaster with fabric everywhere and the ironing board and everything else but Cayden was quite pleased with his new bag and now I will go have a piece of chocolate cake and may just even put ice cream on it just to make myself feel better.

Oh I just thought of another lovely title for this post
I am SEW incredibly inept!

Fish Lake-Manly Mormon Style

Don and Cody went on a camping trip to Fish Lake with the Teachers and Priests from our ward. There were 26 people total 17 boys and 9 leaders. They all left on Wednesday June 24 and stayed through Saturday the 28. They camped in tents , ate 25 lbs of Carne Asada, went fishing, jumped off cliffs into a very cold river, had many devotionals, and studied Preach My Gospel. It was quite chilly and rainy so there was not a lot of hiking or swimming in the lake but the boys kept themselves amused with cards and hot chocolate at the lodge. Don loves that sort of stuff and Cody even had a good time just don't ask him to admit it.

Caleb's Day and Father's Day

11 years ago today on Father's Day Caleb made his entrance into the world with a little bald head and HUGE feet! It was 3:00 in the afternoon and Don and I had been walking around the mall and anywhere else we could think of because we knew that we had to go to the hospital but only when I was so far gone that they could not send me home. I was only 36 weeks along and had already been in the hospital and on bedrest trying to keep him in and my doctor said that I had to get to 36 weeks. I made it to 36 weeks on the dot but because the nurses at the hospital have their directions about always stopping labor before 37 weeks and I had already played that game ALOT we walked and walked so we could have that baby. When we got to hospital I can't remember exactly what I was but they did not send me home and the doctor barely had time to get there to catch Caleb. I even remember asking the nurse if she had delivered a baby on her own before because he was not gonna wait much longer. So 11 years later here we are-
In keeping with tradition we gave Caleb all of his gifts in the shopping bags they came in because I hate I hate I hate I hate wrapping gifts and plus I decided that I was saving trees. Anyway since Caleb's birthday happened to fall on Sunday and he got really got 2 days worth of celebrating we waited until after church for him to open his gifts. He got lots of clothes and a pair of shoes and flipflops. He also got a game for his DS, 2 moveis-Bolt and Scooby Doo-a big box of legos and a portable tetherball thing. Grandma and grandpa came over for hamburgers and tasty bundt cake. If you will notice that again we did not have candles so we had to punt again with a 6 and a 5.

Don got a big new tent and a bunch of new salsa's from Trader Joes to taste. He also got to reminise about the fabulous Father's Day 11 years ago when Caleb Mitchell Adams was his Father's Day gift. We gave Grandpa Don a new Gott cooler and some tasty root beer. Granddaddy Larry will get his gift when we go up to Provo soon. I wish my brother would have gotten a baby girl for a Father's Day gift but my stubborn little niecypooh just won't come on already.
